the different towns in amalfi coast? which is the nicest?
Initially planned to visit florence and Venice but now we are set on the amalfi coast. I have seen a lot of wonderful pics of the amalfi coast and was wondering if it is a good idea to go there in feb? We are not the type that enjoy swimming so will we still enjoy ourselves? I have read so much about amalfi, positano, ravello, sorrento and salerno so now I do not know where to base myself. I will have a car so can drive anywhere.

I'm afraid most hotels and probably even restaurants will be closed in February. Nor will the Amalfi Coast be at its best in February.
I would suggest that you return to your original idea of Florence and Venice (weather conditions play much less of a role in cities than in resorts).

Agree that Feb is not the best time for this area - a beach resort when its chilly and possibly raining is not the ideal vacation venue. (Be aware than many of the ferry and boat services don;t run at all - or on very limited schedules at this time of year - in addition to the clossure or limited opening hours of hotels and restaurants.)

I actually know a friend who went to the amalfi coast last winter and was so glad to go at that time cuz according to him the weather was not bad at all and he loved the fact that there were no tourists. (he used to go in the summer). Also, I think the big hotels remain open so you might be able to find good deals.

Going to the Amamlfi coast is like going to the beach in southern New Jersey or Delaware in Febraury; you might get a nice sunny warmish day, or you might get cold rain. Most of the better restaurants are closed and Capri is basically shut down. The wonderful pics you have seen of Amalfi were NOT taken in February. . . .
