The Cure @ Bilbao BBK Live 2012

Has anyone gone to this festival before, if so, is it good? I see that this year THE CURE (!!!) is a headliner (along with Radiohead) and since I will be in the area at that time, wouldn't mind to check this out.

I´ve been there a couple of years ago, and I enjoyed it (but I am afraid that given that Bilbao is my hometown ... I have it easy).
It was good and I enjoyed it a lot. I´m still thinking about going this year, but it will depend on who is playing when.

The concert is fine and it will be busy. It's typically held in the open and tickets are for general admission only, no reserved seating.

jomagpie Jan 24th, 2012 11:52 AM

Do you think it will be safe enough for a female to attend this festival on her own? I really want to see The Cure and doesn't look like they'll be playing in Canada anytime soon so this may be my only chance.

cova Jan 24th, 2012 12:20 PM

Jo, if you are used to concerts, I don´t think that you will have any problem.
There will be free buses going up from town (Termibus) and the BEC in Barakaldo, and on summer weekends the metro runs all night, so you will be able to reach your hotel without problems.

I have been on my own to concerts in London or here in Madrid, and there hasn´t been a problem. Well, the worst is usually coming back afterwards ...

It should be safe for a woman, Bilbao is a calm town and no major crimes are committed. A great festival held on top of one of the hills surrounding Bilbao.

Cova, long time...:)

mr_go Jan 24th, 2012 01:18 PM

Hmmm... The Cure, Radiohead, Band of Skulls, the Klaxons, Snow Patrol, The Gift... maybe I'll have to skip Lollapalooza this year!

cova Jan 25th, 2012 12:23 AM

Hi Mikel, work life is being "awfully busy", but I managed last weekend to get to Bilbao. Dinner in Santurtzi, pretty good.

Jo, BBK Live is what I would call a city festival (similar to Wireless in London), so I think it is far easier than festivals like the FIB.

Mr_Go ... think about it ! We can guarantee you that the food will be pretty good ;)

Bye, Cova

mr_go Jan 25th, 2012 05:02 AM

cova: I'll definitely give it some consideration. But ms_go wants us to go to Outside Lands in San Fransisco this year (speaking of outrageously good food). Not sure how many summer festivals I can take!

jomagpie Jan 25th, 2012 05:05 AM

@Cova et al. - thanks for the responses! good to hear. now just have to wait to see how much one-day tickets will cost me!

Oh also, if anyone decides to go this year, send me a message :)

cova Jan 25th, 2012 06:07 AM

Jo, the three days pass costs 105 euros aprox right now, so I guess a one day ticket should be around 40 more or less.

I´m still waiting to know who is playing when. I cannot go on Thursday, so I have to wait for the Friday and Saturday line-up. Right now I am crossing fingers because Franz Ferdinand are playing in Belgium on the 12th of July, so maybe, maybe, maybe, after something like 5 failed attempts, they will go to Bilbao and I will manage to see them ;)

I´ll keep in touch just in case I decide to go

Bye, Cova

@Cova - also waiting for the times so I can figure out my schedule for San Sebastian and Pamplona. :)

Keep in touch

The best day will be Thursday, less busy than the other two. I´ll go on Friday...no matter who´s playing that day, it´ll be someone good, that´s for sure.

cova Jan 25th, 2012 09:05 AM

Hi Mikel,
I think my brother is planning on going on Thursday, as he has done the two previous years, but I don´t think that I will be able to get Thursday afternoon and Friday off, so I´ll have to wait until Friday to fly to Bilbao.

Given my luck, Thursday will be the day with more groups to my liking.

Jo, I´ll send you an email later on.

Bye, Cova

Hi I am Mavis from Hong Kong, Do you know where I can purchase the one-day pass (13/7 with Radiohead) online? I check the websites (BBK, seeticket, ticket web), there is only 3 day pass costing 88euros!

mikelg Feb 5th, 2012 08:23 AM

http://www.bilbaobbklive.com/2012/in...emid=3&lang=en, but I´m not sure if you can purchase the one day tickets yet.

cova Feb 5th, 2012 10:10 AM

Maviss, it is not 88 euros, it is 88 pounds. The actual price is 105 euros.

The one day tickets won´t be on sale until they confirm the last headliner. They have The Cure and Radiohead, but there is still one missing.

Jo, Maviss, there are three new anouncements. I guess anytime now the day tickets will be on sale :

Warpaint, Glasvegas and The Kooks

Hi Cova et. al,

I've been following them on their Twitter feed, and this is what they say about day tickets "The last bit of news is that day tickets for Thursday and Friday will be available from tomorrow. Saturday tickets will be available soon.". Only problem is, they still don't know what the schedule for bands are which makes it tough to know what day to buy a ticket for.

Stay tuned!

jomagpie Feb 8th, 2012 07:13 AM

Ok so looks like the schedule is:

Thursday July 12
The Cure
Snow Patrol/Band of Skulls/Lori Meyers/The Gift/Tribes

Friday July 13
Radiohead
The Kooks/Vetusta Morla/Noah & The Whale/Warpaint/Zoe

Saturday July 14
(guess still need one more headliner)
Glasvegas/Corizonas/The Inspector Cluzo & FB's Horns

Looks like I'll be going on the Thursday!
Mikel - I'll email you :)
