The Carte Orange and Versailles

Hi, I love the Carte Orange not only for the savings but for being able to jump in and out of buses. And for the freedom and convenience of having a pass instead of paying each time.

This year we shall be only four days in Paris but I am going to get it anyway and i
I plan to use it to go to Versailles taking the Metro to Pont de Sevres and then bus 171, as we use to do long ago before the R.E>R., can anyone confirm that the Carte Orange is valid for Bus 171? I know it will take a little more time but leaving early I see no problem. This way I believe I shall have the cake and it.

sorry, I believe I shall have the cake and eat it, because if I use the Carte Orante to go to Versailles I shall save money even using it four days only.
Am I right?

If you buy a regukar 2 zones "carte orange", it won't be valid outside Paris, whether on the bus or on the RER. Of course you can buy a "carte orange" including more zones, but it isn't worth the cost if you only intend to go to Versailles. Just use tickets for the bus.

A carte orange for zones 1-2 only is 14.10E. For zones 1-4 (versailles) it is 24.5E. If the bus ride to Versailles is worth 10E to you, then buy the more expensive pass. If the bus ticket alone is much less than 10E, then by it and the C.O. for zones 1-2.
(if bus 171 is the one you catch on the tree-lined blvd that runs out from the Versailles entrance, we used our pass to ride it in 2002, doubt anything has changed...)

I transposed numbers, but it doesn't make much difference (it's 14.5 and 24.10)

An RER ticket will only be good for the RER to Versailles (I believe), and will cost about 6E for round trip. A Carte Orange will be good for either the RER or the bus, if you buy zone 1-4. I've never bought a bus ticket to go outside Paris, so I don't know how much that would be.

My son had a Carte Orange zones 1-2 and he bought supplemental tickets for the RER trip to/from Versailles. I think they were 2.80 Euros each.
