Melnq8 - OMG am I ready! This summer we've added Engelberg to our 3 weeks in the Swiss alps, so your favorites are now noted in PEN in my journal! This is our first time to visit Engelberg, so I appreciate the recommendations!

Hi kopp -
Gasthaus Engel is near the monastery and our overall favorite Engelberg restaurant.
We had a good lunch at Cafe Desire on one trip - I think they close in the late afternoon and don't serve dinner.
We were disappointed with the food at Hotel Crystal and Bierlialp Trattoria Pizzeria though.
If you haven't booked your hotel yet, you might consider Hotel Garni Belmont or Hotel Sonnewendhof. We've stayed at both and would happily return to either (***). Both are located within walking distance to the train station.
Have a great trip.

Best (overall) "out-in-the-countryside-near Geneva" - - Domaine de Chateauvieux, near Satigny.
Honorable mention: le Pavillon at Schweizerhof-Luzern (fancy-schmancy).
See http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...mp;tid=1309116
Best wishes,
Rex

Oh my gosh, these recommendations are all sounding fabulous! I don't know where Engelberg is - but I'm looking it up!
That Hotel Bodmi does look wonderful. And I've advanced just far enough in my German lessons to know - I think - their slogan is "your farm paradise"! That is delightful.
Keep those recommendations coming!

JThor - In Interlaken don't miss "Schuh" Restaurant, Confiserie & Tea-Room, Hoeheweg 56 near the Grand Hotel Jungfrau Viktoria. Indoor & outdoor seating. Not only are their pastries delicious, they also serve very good meals, like venison in season, e.g.
In Grindelwald: Bäckerei-Konditorei, Tea-Room Ringgenberg, Hauptstrasse. (Main Street in Center near COOP) delicious breads, fruit pies and pastries.

Definitely the Sunday brunch at Waldstätterhof in Brunnen. Worth every Rappen.
The restaurant is next to the Vierwaldstättersee in Brunnen. It has a huge beautiful room with high ceilings and wall length windows. The buffet is set up elegantly with different cheeses, breads, fish, meat, desserts, pates, etc. At 11.00, they set up lunch menus as well, so you can eat your heart out from 9.00-14.00.
And the food is divine.
You need to reserve because the Swiss come near and far for the brunch.
