Rizzuto, irony was not on mind when you made some funny claims like "the insurance company will pay out a lot less than they take in."

But you're right, I shouldn't take you seriously.

Sigh. Irony, definition of:

The use of words to convey the opposite of their literal meaning; (http://grammar.about.com)

2 a : the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning
b : a usually humorous or sardonic literary style or form characterized by irony
(http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary)

Maybe we need an irony icon.

OK. So I have made the decision TO purchase insurance. Now I am having trouble finding a reputable company. I looked at reviews for many of the insuremytrip.com's companies, and most of them have scathing reviews. Can any of you who have actually had to file a claim recommend a good insurance company (if there IS such a thing)?

What kind of insurance?

I am looking at a package deal with CSA - $68 gets me trip cancellation, trip interruption, travel delay, missed connection, baggage, baggage delay, medical, air flight accident, and emergency transport.

On an "independent" insurance review website, all the "editor reviews" were great, but the company got blistering reviews from nearly every "customer." But they were ALL that way, even the company the AAA uses for its travel insurance.

I was just wondering companies people have used in the past and been successful when needing to file a claim.

I only buy medical evacuation insurance. I had a good experience with tenweb.com.

Look very carefully at the exclusions and the covered amounts for the kind of policy you are considering. Why did you opt for a full policy? I've forgotten where we started with this - are you on a tour?

I use TravelGuard and had absolutely no problems with my claim in 2006. As stated above, make sure you are buying the coverage that you need, and read all the exclusions carefully. But, if you have significant non-refundable pre-trip expenses, or a real need for evacuation insurance, then you can find coverage from a decent company at a decent price.

" or a real need for evacuation insurance" - EVERYONE traveling abroad needs evacuation insurance. I don't care how young and healthy you are, accidents happen, and they're more likely to happen in unfamiliar environments. And if you need to be sent home on a stretcher it will cost, big time.
