The best croque monsieur in Paris?

Anyone? I've heard the best is at a cafe on the eastern side of the Bercy village...has anyone been there? Or do you have a favorite elsewhere?

Merci,
Wendy

Wendy,
I guess the most memorable was the first. My first trip to Paris in 1997 while walking through the Touleries Gardens. There is an outdoor snack bar/cafe. I thought I'd found heaven! Once my trip was over, I found myself at my local grocery store buying ham and emmentaler (sp?) cheese and trying to make them at home. Definitely not the same!

I guess this is a non-answer since it wasn't in Paris---but there is a wonderful little place across the street from the train station in Nice.....(and we were so hungry!)

For me it's the Cafe Musee on the corner just down from the Rodin Museum. Delicious!

Has anyone had one near the place Bastille, served on Poilane bread?

Austin May 7th, 2001 04:09 PM
I forgot the croque served at L Arc is madr with a large slab of Rye Bread---I mean real Rye Bread

Yes, Elizabeth, me too. Maybe it was because it was my first, but it was delicious, egg and all.

Wendy, I had a great ham sandwich from
a shop near Place des Vosges. It was in a long piece of bread with lots of butter. Delicieux.

Dan,

Thank you!

I am sure that is it...do you remember the name?

Wendy

I was just going through the new Sur La Table catalog and they sell a Croque Monsieur Electric Sandwich Grill for $45USD. I'm sure they're also at www.surlatable.com. Finding Paris- quality jambon in Ohio will be another story.
j.

Perhaps it was the setting rather than the croque monsieur itself, or perhaps it was because it was my first croque monsieur in Paris, but my favourite was at the cafe in the gardens of the Musee Rodin. It was a beautiful sunny warm day in August, with a lovely light breeze, and we enjoyed a wonderful lunch of croque monsieurs, salads, and tartes aux pommes, sitting amidst the trees, flowers and sculptures of the gardens.
