The best comments.

We've been told to be nice...
Here I would propose to copy paste the best comments found on threads.
Here is the first, from an ongoing thread. No need to cite the author, I'd say :

'it hasn't been turned into what the ahistoric non-city Venice of twee preserved-for-tourist amusements that Venice has prostituted itself to become to please its groping, drooling fans.'

PalenQ Feb 26th, 2016 10:28 AM

'Venice is sinking under the weight of tourism'

bvlenci Feb 26th, 2016 10:53 AM

'it hasn't been turned into what the ahistoric non-city Venice of twee preserved-for-tourist amusements that Venice has prostituted itself to become to please its groping, drooling fans.'

Could somebody parse that sentence for me?

iris1745 Feb 26th, 2016 11:06 AM

Forget Venice.

Actually, you can be not that kind to newbie's--own up!! to your shortcomings.

JulieEC Feb 26th, 2016 11:16 AM

I'm with bvlenci. We can all be sweet as pie but grammar girl is gonna have a field day...

AJPeabody Feb 26th, 2016 11:31 AM

Off-topic, Whathello, email address is on my profile.

>>Groping, drooling fans<<

Well I understood the message.

I am a traveller, who knows the real [wherever]

YOU are a visitor (to whom I shall give the benefit of the doubt as regards your capacity to appreciate the real [wherever] - but you're on probation)

THEY are groping, drooling fans who think overpriced tourist tat is not only the real [wherever], but are convinced that it's the only [wherever]- and they love it.

Patrick - a sort of travelling Nancy Mitford perhaps?

suze Mar 1st, 2016 11:01 AM

Yet another thread to make fun of your fellow posters? Really??

BritishCaicos Mar 1st, 2016 11:16 AM

This is beginning to sound like the bunker in 1945.

When are the Russians coming?

hetismij2 Mar 1st, 2016 11:25 AM

A pity the Lounge isn't open, all these threads could, and should be taken there.

suze Mar 1st, 2016 11:30 AM

No kidding that! It's really too bad the Lounge is closed because it was made for exactly this purpose. To keep the meandering chit chat off the travel destination forums.

BritishCaicos Mar 1st, 2016 12:56 PM

Hets

Have they closed it down?

Europe forum is becoming comical.

hetismij2 Mar 1st, 2016 12:58 PM

It isn't closed down, just closed to those who signed up after a certain date. They don't even see it in the forum listings.

TPAYT's thread was begun expression frustration about people's unwillingness to be nicer to NEW posters (despite the headline; the first post makes the issue clear). So it is disingenous to put up a post by me that I wrote in response to the insulting treatment a NEW poster was being given.

I type very fast and hit the button. Very often I go back and clean up my mistakes. I'm not bothering to re-check the thread to see if i clariified my remarks. I am just as unapologetic about my typos and garbles sentences as I am about telling you idiots off when you treat new posters badly and, worse, give them bad advice based on your extremely limiited experiences in Italy especially, and even more limited ideas on how other people enjoy traveling in Europe.

sandralist Mar 1st, 2016 01:13 PM

ah -- meant to type "begun expressing frustration" -- and just remembered I often do apologize for my typos. Just not doing it on a thread with as much mean spirited ill-intent as this one.

What a hell it must be to be what the hell--oh, fill in the blanks with whatever you need to believe about yourself, and I'm sure your equally mean Fodor frenemies with be eager to gush all over you. Who was it who said "people are never closer to one anotehr when they can find somebody to hate together" -- ?? - or something like that.

I'm with Yanis V. on this, feeling the contempt with pride.

Interesting that Whathello didn't include some of his/her more controversial comments.

Like his love for Rich.

Anyways, I am honored to be included with this group

without the OP. LOL

sundriedtopepo Mar 1st, 2016 01:27 PM

The world will not stop turning if new posters stop coming to Fodor's for advice. And certainly not worth all this DRAMA.

Maybe some of you should be writing soap operas instead of giving travel advice...

And what a shame, too, because some of you, including Sandra, have good advice to give, but emotion takes over from logic and makes a very uncomfortable arena for the public.

suze Mar 1st, 2016 01:30 PM

<The world will not stop turning if new posters stop coming to Fodor's for advice.>

No but it would eventually be the death of the forums.
