The Beaufort or The Knightsbridge?

Hello.
My wife and I are celebrating our anniversary and are looking for a luxury boutique style hotel in Knightsbridge to celebrate. I looked through many threads on Fodors, but I was wondering if anyone has any updated info. I've heard some RECENT negative comments on the Beaufort and was wondering if anyone can confirm. Also, I understand that The Knightsbridge is recently reopened. Has anyone stayed there since the reopening?
Pleas Help! I really want to make this a special surprise for my special partner!

Thanks.

Oops. Forgot to mention the "negative" comments on The Beaufort. I've heard that it's under new management (not as nice as previous), the rooms are getting outdated, some rooms small and dark, etc, etc. This Hotel has been praised as a five star boutique. Is this still true?

Definitly not a 5 star. See the two most recent reviews on rants and raves. They say it all.

I can recommend the Basil Street Hotel, where I stayed this summer, although it may be a bit too large to be described as a "boutique" hotel. I haven't stayed at the Capital, which is just down the street from the Basil Street, but friends who have just returned from London stayed there, and they speak very highly of it as the kind of place where the staff can't do enough to make the guests happy.

My husband and I stayed there a couple of years ago. It wasn't a pleasant experience. We had read so many great reviews and were sadly disappointed. Our room was so small the closet door couldn't open all the way. The previous occupants put the tv in the closet to make more room. To top it off all my jewelry was stolen the night before we left. They have no roon safes.

Try the Cranley and get the four poster bed the hotel is lovely. They have champagne in the evening and tea in the afternoon. I just got back and loved it.
