The Assassination Of Julius Caesar-A Detailed Walk Of The Sites And Events.

The Roman Forum and historical sites associated with Julius Caesar have always fascinated me when I'm in Rome. Tourists (like myself often bypass these unmarked major and minor sites, never knowing what transpired there over 2000yrs ago. But we all have heard the story, either thru history books, teachers. movies, tv or the Shakespearean play.
I'm not a very good writer but I have tried to take you back to the "Ides of March" in 44BC. The timeline is basically the last ~18hrs of Julius Caesar's life and the following 3 days leading up to his funeral.
The actual site locations are *very* accurate but as far as what was said or done, or the omens that happened...It's up to you to believe it or not. All I have done is piece together what was written by ancient historians (Suetonius, Plutarch, Cassius Dio) and info I've gotten from websites, history books, historical guidebooks, documentarys, etc. I have paraphrased some words and/or combined different versions or just chosen one version of who, what or where. Also a few educated guesses. I have added a "?" mark here and there (very few) in the *middle* of a sentence when there's a doubt or another version says something differently. But the "google archive" has also added "?" marks usually in groups and in between *complete* sentences so disregard them completely.
Again it's just a historical tourist walk of the sites, not a thesis and I just tried to balance everything out to keep it accurate plus entertaining.
It was *way* too long to post here, so go to the URL below to find it if interested.
http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=28700-3DA0BC9C-482%40storefull-2318.public.lawson.webtv.net
if that's a problem try http://paulding.net/bin/url.cgi/11967.7 or e-mail me for it.
Regards, Walter

Outstanding story, however the links to the photographs at the end of the story are dead.

Walter:

We are leaving tomorrow for 2 1/2 weeks in Italy. I will copy your Caesar tour and bring it along. 8 years ago I had read the Roman series by Colleen McCollough and enjoyed walking on the same streets as Gaius Julius and the others. Thank you.

Michelle

Walter

Great story, however I've just tried to access the links as well and the response is that the page is not found on the server. Even adding the additional "images/largoargent10.jpg" to the "http://www.vroma.org/images/raia" link resulted in the same result.

This will usually mean that the pages in question have been deleted from the server or the link has been changed in some way (either moved or a spelling error). The fact that you are still able to see the images could be that your Browser is accessing them directly from it's cache.

David

OPPS, Sorry Jim you were correct. And David what it is was when it was archived in google it left out these "_" and opened the link. So even if you closed it up it was still the wrong URL. An LP poster pointed me in the right direction. Plus with WebTv I couldn't cache a picture or website only a URL so I knew it was something but I checked-out the URLs in my mailbox and not at the google website, so they worked for me. Thanks for the heads-up and try these. I reposted this walk in alt.travel with a few minor changes. I think these URLs will be easier to follow because I'm still having minor problems with the "google" archives. It just explains the problems and how to overlook them. Also a back-up shorter URL in case the longer URL opens or breaks in posting. I've added some more info on things I've found (read about and looked for) or just noticed on my last trip. Plus replaced a dead-link.
I still have the same problems in the "google archives", running the paragraphs together, adding "?" and leaving out the "_ underlines" in the Photo Links URL's. But it only does this in long posts and not when the URL's are posted seperately.
It's in 3 sections, the text, the photo link URLs and the broken photo link URLs with info about the photos. And I've added a shorter link to the longer google URL in case it breaks as long URLs sometimes do.
Feel free to e-mail me if you'd like me to send it to you without the google snafu. Although I also have a small problem with paragraphs on long e-mails with Webtv. Regards, Walter
