Alas, high tide, winds and lots of heavy rain today has enlightened us to our first aqua alta. :(

Pretty much every vaporetto stop is under water. We are back at the apt, only to find the entire kitchen and dining room taken over by ants! Eeeewwww!!!

Landlord agent supposed to be here soon. :(

This not-so-great start can only get better, right???

Blog coming soon. :)

You made it!!!!! Congratulations. No surprise you were emotional in leaving your family. Hopefully time and your new adventures will help give you a different focus.

I know it's small comfort, but the last few days have been lovely - I'm hoping that today has been something of an abberation in terms of weather - we only have a week left here.

Would you care to share a spritz with us one evening - my email is [email protected]

The forecast for tomorrow is rotten, but I think less aqua alta. Fingers crossed.

We're staying near Campo San Giacomo.

Benvenuti!!!

A few days of rain...we'll be glad in a few short weeks when things are baking...

You're in Italy now, where everything is better with olive oil and nothing gets done fast. Relax and enjoy.

Pepper_von_snoot May 16th, 2013 12:17 PM

Oh, Campo San Giacomo is the most beautiful campo in all of Venice.

I just love the flower l-covered portico there next to Coop.

Have you had dinner at Zucca?

O O O I am so pea-green with envy.

Thanks for taking us along on your Italian adventure! Wishing you blue skies and lots of Prosecco. ((f))

willowjane May 16th, 2013 01:21 PM

I am so impressed with you! I cannot wait for the blog. Pictures please.

soogies May 16th, 2013 01:27 PM

Congrats, sarge! And, like you, I'd be bawling my eyes out at leaving everyone. Once you get settled and no jet lag, things will be different. I am glad you have your nephew there with you.

I wish you the best and look forward to your blog.

Bokhara2 May 16th, 2013 01:32 PM

I'm glad Peter S found you, Sarge - I was just thinking he'd be a great contact for you.

Brava, cara! Enjoy it all!

We had a fire in the woodstove last night (SW France) and driving rain today. Sigh. It has to improve, doesn't it?

I have always wanted to tour La Fenice--do they have those?

Here's hoping you see sun soon!

sarge56,

you can buy "ant motels" in Italy that are like roach motels, and they are miracle workers. Don't spray a lot of poison around. It doesn't work.

You want a product from the hardware store that looks like this:

Peter_S_Aus May 16th, 2013 02:59 PM

I wonder if the ants were seeking higher ground. Today's tide was rather alta, the wind pushing the tide level up by about 50 cm.

stevewith May 16th, 2013 04:59 PM

Yes. They are looking for dry and warmer spots to establish themselves for summer. But once they have established a "scent" trail, they will just keep emerging and marching to re-colonize. They won't necessarily go back, since they will certainly have found food in the apartment.

What is going on at the Fortuny Museum?

When Keith and I were in Venice the Diana Vreeland exhibit was in full swing.

You should have seen the pink Balenciaga ball gown once owned by Polly Mellon!

Oh, you would have swooned like Mrs.Bennett when observing Mrs. Hurst's lace in Pride and Prejudice.

All of Diana's Roger Vivier flats were also on exhibit.

Definitely check out the Fortuny Museum if you have a chance.

The Fortuny Museum is usually closed unless there is a temporary special exhibit.

Did I say things could only get better? :(

Deathly ill since late last night. I am wondering if I'm wearing thin my welcome in Venice.

Must have picked up something from someone en route here. :( My insides feel completely shredded, as if I'd been eating glass. Dang!

Peter, since we are due to train to Florence on Sunday, I suspect we will have to delay our meeting to another time. I was really looking forward to meeting you. Perhaps next visit?

I sure hope I feel better soon.

Thanks all!

How wonderfully wise of you to get all this nasty stuff over and done with right away so you can proceed to the glorious parts of your adventure.
