The Actual London Underground

From time to time, it is mentioned hereabouts that the classic Underground map doesn't reflect the relative distances between stations accurately, because it was deliberately distorted for the sake of an uncluttered graphical presentation.

If you've ever wondered what the Tube network <u>really</u> looks like, it's here:

Thank you for that very interesting link. I like the way it morphs into the real thing. It has taken me years to understand the layout of the Thames thanks to the totally misrepresented depiction of it on the tube map.

That's a great site Robespierre! The London underground map is just so easy to use. Very interesting to see it the other way.

How Cool. I went to grad school in London years ago and always felt like I never quite got it figured out as far as where everything was. It's not that I was wandering around lost all the time or anything, it just always seemed a little off. Perhaps it's because subconsciously I was trying to make London fit the tube map? I don't know. Next time I go maybe I'll print out the real underground and use it instead. :-)

You don't have to print out the Real Underground layout. It's on the bus(!) map they give away in the Tube stations.

Incredible. I see it's provided by the London Transport Museum - one of the best stops I ever made in London.

Very, very cool!

Wug, I, too, was always trying to make London fit the tube map!

Way to go, Robespierre. Such an interesting link.

Years ago I visited the London Transport Museum. It was a highlight of that particular stay. I've always recommended it to others.
