Thassos? Parga?
 

Anybody with knowledge of these places out there? Both look pretty places but what is there to do round about? Any views on the places as well would be welcome!

Went to Parga 3 years ago in August. very nice town, plenty of restaurants and easy to organise trips out of town c/o travel agents eg.First Choice which are in the town. We went swimming in the river Styx.<BR>There is a hill on the outskirts of the town close to the beach, opposite side to the castle ruins. Right on the top is a small white chapel with a very old painting inside - does anyone know the history of this? We tried to photograph butterflies and admired the olive groves and the town below.<BR><BR>There is two beaches and if you go for 2 weeks you might want to hire a car to see the surrounding countryside yourselves.

thanks Siobhan<BR>is the beach nice? Also most of the accomodation seems to be on the outskirts of the town. Are they within easy reach of town and are there any accomodations you would recommend?

The town is not very large at all so 'right on the outskirts' is only five minutes walk from the centre.<BR>The two beaches are, if I remember correctly, the Town Beach and Valtos beach.<BR>The Town Beach, as its name implies, is right on the seafront of the town itself. Very handy for bars, cafes, restaurants and shops, it's not very big but is pleasant, sheltered and has the picturesque view of a little chapel on an island in the middle of the bay only 50 yards swim away. You can hire pedalloes or small motor boats from here to explore the coastline and find your own totally secluded beaches.<BR>Valtos Beach is much larger, a wide expanse of sand with more in the way of waterports going on, such as water skiing, but nothing really in the way of bars etc.<BR>The two beaches are separated by a promontory topped by the ruins of an old Venetian fortress, offering excellent views of both beaches. Valtos is more of a walk away - it could be a good fifteen minutes from the town down to the beach.<BR>We stayed The Yellow House Hotel, a small, very basic, self-catering hotel a few minutes walk up from the town centre. Clean, but not much in the way of luxury unfortunately - no air conditioning. I don't know of any other hotels.<BR>Parga is a lovely little town, busy in peak season, especially with Italians and Germans. As I mentioned before, there are plenty of excursions organised to nearby attractions - follow in the footsteps of Achilles up the Styx, an amphitheatre, an oracle and ferries to nearby Islands eg Corfu.<BR>A good selection of bars and restaurants on the seafront which becomes quite lively at night, or you can choose from others away from the front if you prefer a quieter atmosphere. And if you do go to Parga, go to the restaurant right up by the fortress. Built on the edge of the cliff it has wonderful views of Parga lit up at night.
