Thanksgiving Dinner in Paris

My wife and I will be in Paris on Thanksgiving Day [US version, Nov 24th this year]. Seems like it would be fun to have traditional [US traditional] Thanksgiving turkey and fixings. Suggestions for where we might find such a dinner much appreciated!

If you search key word "Thanksgiving" and click on France, you'll see a number of threads. One, I recalled from last year, suggested:

Thanksgiving
20 rue Saint-Paul Paris 75004, metro Saint-Paul
Non-smoking room upstairs. Reservations advised for brunch.
Tel. 01 42 77 68 2

I was in Paris for Thanksgiving last year and splured with a friend for a non-American Thanksgiving feast and it was terrific (though I missed mom's dressing and pecan pie).

On the Travel Channel, a reporter wrote about a Cafe where she enjoyed a great Thanksgiving meal:

I have had Thanksgiving meal at Thanksgiving as well. It was quite good. Keep in mind, this is an exotic meal and the price reflects that. I think it was around 45 euros a person? It was all you can eat either that or they offered seconds, cant remember. You must book well in advance and they require a non refundable deposit.

Here is their website : http://www.thanksgivingparis.com/

Have done both the Thanksgiving dinner at Thanksgiving and even better, the Friday leftovers dinner, not very expensive and somehow even more authentic an experience! (Not the same year!!!) Definitely sit downstairs for the prime people watching and the funniest wait staff...there may have been smoking but nothing noticeable.

When we were in Paris over Thanksgiving we had dinner at Le Violon d'Angres. Christian Constant, the check, added roast turked to the menu for a main course, and it was yummy--as was the rest of the meal.

LOL, my pompously said "homage" to some sort of fowl on Thanksgiving, was foie gras...

I cooked my own bird the following weekend once home...

hi
just to correct for search purposes, the restaurant referred to above is
Le Violon d'Ingres
I agree, a wonderful restaurant.

Hi MorganB, I'm not sure what to tell. We did not have a reservation but did call on Friday morning to ask if they had any leftovers (as you probably know it is mainly a cajun restaurant and only does the turkey menu for turkey day). They said come on over. There were about 6-7 of us met there around 2:30 and sure enough the chalk board was offering day-old thanksgiving fare along with more typical offerings. Yum! Don't know if this is an annual event or most likely depends on how much they have left over.

I usually stop by to check out the grocery store if I'm in the neighborhood...interesting to see what they carry and shocking to see what it costs!Saw the flyer for Thanksgiving Day dinner and we did book for that.

The American Church in Paris usually hosts a Thanksgiving meal. A nice way to meet with expats and travelers. I don't know if one is scheduled for this year, but you can contact the church from their web site www.acparis.org

Violon d'Ingres, Violon d'Ingres---gee. My proofreading is shot. But I did spell Violon right.

Oh dear--I called poor Constant a check instead of a chef! Back to the penalty box.

This is what comes of posting while listening to German tapes.

I used to live in Paris and we would buy a turkey and cook a Thanksgiving dinner. We bought a turkey on Rue Mouffetard in the 5th. You have to reserve a turkey in advance (about 2 weeks; just specify the date you need the turkey) because its hard to buy a whole turkey.

If you are going out for a Thanksgiving dinner, I think that Thanksgivings would be the best place to go, like Chiacgo_Heather said.

Hey Coco, Yes the prices in their little grocery store are insane!! They do provide a service however and all those items are special imports so i didnt really surprise me. However I do try to bring those types of items with me from the US rather than buying them over there.

Thanks for the info on Thanksgiving. I will have to see if that do that this year.
