I have had problems with some hotels and not others. I think it's a function of how professional they are and how busy they are. I used to be pro-FAX as I thought it was more polite and I can write fluent French, so I did that instead of emailing, but I have changed my tune this year as I have found that many hotels/B&Bs will respond to emails but not FAXes as emails are free. Makes sense and is much cheaper and easier for me, also. Anyway, some hotels and B&Bs in Provence did not respond to my FAXes at all, even two FAXes in succession--one never answered, another FINALLY answered an email when I copied the FAX and very politely asked them WHAT THEIR PROBLEM WAS as surely they missed my FAX? They answered my email saying "oh, right, your FAX, we have no vacancies." So, some French hotels now do not respond to FAXes if they have no vacancies. I waited a couple days between FAXes, even a week in one case. The places that do respond promptly and politely did so within 1-2 days. I might wait a few days unless you want a reservation in the near future, in which case I'd worry about vacancies. Of course, calling would be best; if you don't want to do that or feel uncomfortable (and that is a budget hotel so you can bet a night clerk will probably not speak English), I would email them as a followup, either copying your FAX (hopefully it was in a wordprocessing file) or referring to it. That hotel has an email address on www.hotelsparisonline.com ( [email protected]); it can also be booked on www.rentoparis.com. I cannot vouch for either of those booking services as I haven't used them, and would check rates and possible service fees if you decide to go that route. I think direct reservations are best, if possible.
