TGV Tickets - Cheapest Option?

I'm looking for 3 tickets from Bordeaux to Paris the morning of July 15th and the cheapest I've found is $303 (between the hours of 7am and noon). Does that sound about right?

austinite Jul 2nd, 2009 12:02 PM

Oops, one more question. How much time would you recommend we arrive at the station in advance? Thanks!

StCirq Jul 2nd, 2009 12:10 PM

I just checked and saw three (one-way) for 143 euro, so if you're buying one-way tickets, no, that's not so good.

And did you mean 303 dollars? The SNCF site quotes in euros (maybe you figured the exchange, though).

Hmm, I must be doing something wrong as I did mean 303 dollars. I was looking at the Montparnasse station. StCirq - did you find that price to another station maybe?

StCirq Jul 2nd, 2009 12:34 PM

The only station in Paris that it goes to is Montparnasse. It also goes to CDG airport, but that's not Paris.

Are you using www.voyages-sncf.com?

YOu don't have a choice of station to arrive at in Paris.

Where are you getting a dollar price from? SNCF won't quote in dollars, it's the French railroad and they don't accept dollars nor do they price in dollars.

I see about five times available and all the fares are 106.40 euro in first class, so it could be around 300 euro for three of them but that is first class. In second, I only see 69-80 euro each (but I didn't check after 10:30 am.

StCirq Jul 2nd, 2009 01:18 PM

The 147 euro one is now gone. Cheapest for 3 people one-way in 2nd class is now about 200 euro.

Thanks for your help. Yes, I'm using the voyages-sncf site and buying the tickets from the US. I click on the UK flag so I can read it in English and keep getting redirected to raileurope.com and see the same higher ticket prices. If I do try to make my way through it French, I see a total of 205 euro.

I'm usually pretty savy with this kind of thing, but can't seem to figure this out!

Just stay on the French site. Pick your train (there's one at 11:24 for 200.70 euro, BTW), then click Valider cet aller (if you want to select your own seats. click on l'Assurance Sérénité first and choose seats). In the next window (which will show your seat assignments)click on Valider votre réservation. Next window, click on Gare ou Boutique, then on Valider votre commande.
