TGV ticket purchase question

I am checking prices to purchase tickets on line to travel from Paris to Avignon by TGV in mid July. (Thanks to all the Fodorites for tips on sncf.com and PREM tickets!) My question is- will the price go down if I wait a bit? I just found a price of 70 euros each. Should I grab them or wait a while?

Is there a way to really predict this? Aren't the tickets like airline fares where you can't predict if they will go up or down? Besides mid-July is almost here and PREM is a discounted ticket already as far as I understand. I'm thinking the fares won't decrease, but I may be wrong.

Hi Diane

I am not an experienced TGV traveller and have only just this week booked seats on an Avignon to Paris train for August. What a relief when I got through the procedure and my email confirmation came through.

I waited for the 60 days prior to my date and looked and there were seats for 45 euro, so I grabbed them, and that was first class. I know people have said they have bought cheaper but I also heard that once the cheap prem tickets go they can be dearer.

Also if it isn't important what time of the day you leave check for a later train.

As I said I only have learned from Fodors but here I am giving advice now.

Hi DD,

The lowest prices are available 60 days in advance. From then on, they go up.
