TGV ticket help

I purchased online 5 TGV tickets from Caen to Paris. After I got them printed and went on to book train tickets for my brother from Rennes to Paris, I noticed that you could select your seats, and I didn't do that with our tickets from Caein to Paris. Our tickets say "without reservation". What does that mean and does anyone know if I can make a seat selection after booking and paying for tickets? They not PREM, they are regular fare tickets. Also, when I look up my reservation, it says "the option on this product has not been confirmed. If it has expired, it will be cancelled." Anyone know what that means? Appreciate any assistance. Thanks so much.

Hi F,

You must choose seats for the TGV.

From whom did you purchase the tickets that you have printed?

You cannot select seats on a regular TER fare. You just get on the train and sit where you want/where there's space. On the train to Rennes, you will have to select seats.

Ira, I purchased them from TGV-Europe...but either I didn't notice the button where you chose your seat, or there wasn't one and it's like StCirq says, it's a TER fare. Yes, I chose the seats for Rennes to Paris. They are SNCF. I'll look on the website and see if it is TER.
Thanks

You cannot choose a seat on a TER train. The Paris-Caen run is a TER train - no reservations even possible. The run to Rennes is a TGV, so yes, you MUST have a reservation, and if you didn't select one online and already have printed-out tickets that show the seat assignments, you'll need to go to the ticket office when you get there and get assignments.

The other language you quoted seems to be a really bad translation. If I could see it in French, I could tell you exactly what it means, but what you've got there isn't exactly illuminating.

Thanks StCirq...yes it says "Intercities" for the Caen to Paris tickets. I have printed them off and paid for them, so now you say we must take our printed tickets to the ticket office to get seat assignments? I did select the seats for the TGV Paris to Rennes tickets...it's just that I had already done our Caen to Paris tickets and hadn't so I wondered if I had missed something. But I get it now. Thanks

Last week I bought TGV tickets from http://www.voyages-sncf.com/. Seats were assigned on the reservation page; site didn't allow to choose them.

NO, you don't get it now. You do NOT take your Caen-Paris tickets anywhere. You just get on the train with them, because you DO NOT NEED AND CANNOT GET SEAT RESERVATIONs for that leg. It's a free-for all. You absolutely cannot get a reserved seat - they do not exist! Your business with the Caen-Paris tickets is DONE.

If you've got seat selections on the Rennes run, that's done too! Just look at the ticket and figure out which voiture you're on and which seats in that voiture, and that's where you must sit.
