TGV Ticket Error...is it a problem??
I printed 4 TGV tickets yesterday for myself, my husband, and the couple traveling with us. Being unsure of the exact birth years of the other couple, I called and spoke to the MAN. He gave me the wrong birth year for his wife!! The tickets are Prems, nonrefundable, nonchangeable. Don't know if this will be a problem and not sure what to do. Posted this on Ricksteves.com and got 2 answers "No Problem...they don't check IDs". I guess I want more confirmation on that. Anyone have experience with this? Suggestions?? Thanks very much.

I can't see it as a problem, unless you are claiming a discount for a senior or something age-related.

Well, they do check ID's, but they're not going to get all fussy about a wrong birth year as long as the name matches up.

>>No Problem...they don't check IDs<,
I think they check passports/IDs - how else would the assure that you are you - and the tickets were not purchased by a broker and sold to last-minute travelers. But I agree that it should not be a problem. We once got on a TGV with tickets for a different time (long story why) - and the ticket checker let us continue. Stu Dudley |
Oh dear, I hope he made her younger or he may have a bad trip!

Thank you all for the reassurance...so I guess I won't worry about them throwing her off the train!!! And yes, Avalon, he made her a year younger!!

I don't think they'll give you grief assuming she has an ID with her photo. Of course they check IDs, they always have on every ticket I've used that had your name and birthdate on it (ie, PREMs).

On the Thalys Paris/Amsterdam/Paris in 2007 and Paris to Nice in 2008 although the tickets were checked the proffered passports were not looked at by conductors.
I'd say you're pretty safe... Rob |
The names are the most important item. The birthdate is mostly to avoid child fare and senior fare fraud.

didoanderson--I would not worry at all if it's not fare related.
