TGV Question
We will be arriving in CDG Airport and plan on taking the TGV to Nice. On our return, we will be taking the TGV from Avignon to Paris where we will be staying in the 6th District.
Could someone please tell me if we have to take the TGV back to CDG Airport or is there a station closer to the 6th District in Paris. Also, should we book both segments of the TGV before we leave home or just the first one to Nice. Thanks in advance for your help! |
You can take a TGV from the Avignon TGV station to Paris Gare de Lyon so there is no need to go to the airport.
Are you aware that you can book these online through the www.voyagessncf.com website and pay for the tickets when you collect them in France? |
Sorry..I meant to say you can pay for them when you book them online and THEN pick them up when you arrive in France.

I did check the SNCF website. I was going to book the TGV from CDG to Nice before we left home. I wasn't sure if I should book the TGV back from Avignon to Paris at the same time. I also cound not figure out how to do two different departure areas. Would I book them individually?
How far is the Paris Gare de Lyon station from the 6th District? |

Oops.
Gare de Lyon is about a mile east of the 6th. Are you thinking about how to get to your hotel? It's probably a €7 taxi ride. |
If you're as frugal as I am, you might want to take the city bus. By acquiring a transport pass for getting around, the ride from the station is "free."
The #63 bus, for example, will get you to Eglise Saint Sulpice in the heart of the 6th in 17 minutes. (Bus and Métro travel is only recommended if you have minimal luggage.) |
dianamc, as others have pointed out, you can book it as an "open jaw" on the TGV website ... CDG to Nice and then Nice to Gare de Lyon. One thing you might look at, however, is whether a CDG-Nice-CDG roundtrip is sugnificantly cheaper than the open jaw, in which case you might choose that routing and then take the RER, a shuttle, or an airport bus from CDG into Paris.
It would really depend on whether the round-trip saving is significant enough to outweigh the cost (and time) of getting back into Paris from CDG. Anselm |
Following up on Anselm's good counsel: you might also want to compare the price of a round trip from Gare de Lyon to Nice plus an Air France bus from CDG to GdL and back (€18 round trip).
