TGV Info Nice to Avignon
 

We are planning a future summer trip. We have often travelled to St. Remy through Paris TGV to Avignon. We are considering an alternate flying in to Nice then taking the TGV to Avignon.

Please provide information on the time of that trip, frequency of the trains, views, etc. (Before the TGV we used to fly in to Nice then drive the three hours to St. Remy.)

put in Avignon-TGV station and not Avignon-Ville for TGV train connections

Trains should leave Nice-Ville (main station) daily around 6:30, 6:56; 9:37, 10:42, 13.26, 15.34 that go to Avignon-TGV station.

Book as early as possible as these trains, which mainly continue on to Paris can be hard to get on if you just show up.

Keep in mind that the train from Nice does not go on the high-speed tracks, which end at Aix/Avignon/Marseille. You'd be travelling on a "regular" train instead.

I'm not sure why you would want to go to Nice first if your actual destination is Avignon.

Lyon Satolas airport is much closer and has a TGV station in it

It wouldn't make any sense to go to Nice first by plane, then the TGV to Avignon, as you wouldn't save any time that way (over just taking the TGV to Avignon in the first place). IN fact, YOu'd probably spend a lot more time as you've have to get from the airport to the train station in Nice, coordinate schedules, etc.

Aside from voyages-sncf, you can use www.bahn.de, the German rail site for schedules in France, also. Click on the "international visitors" tab for English. I use it sometimes as it is quicker and easier than the SNCF site for some things. It also shows interim stops and schedules.

Time itself was not the most important consideration. Other factors you brought up, e.g., it is not a "speed train" from Nice to Avignon, etc. give us food for thought.
