TGV from Brussels to Paris - need reservations?
 

I'm flying into Brussels, then taking the TGV to Paris. I have all the info about taking the train from the airport to the train station (Midi). It sounds easy.<BR><BR>Do I need to make an advance reservation, or just walk up and buy a ticket for the next train to Paris?

It's advisable to have a reservation for the TGV.<BR>Besides, you can easily make it on-line at sncf.fr.

I am under the impression that one does not ride a TGV train without a seat reservation.<BR>Actually, those trains are Thalys trains, and on the French rail web site, all of the notations I have seen say "Reservation required."<BR>I think it is like an US airliner, you don't get on without a seat assignment.<BR>

Are you taking the Thalys or the TGV? Either way, yes, you need a reservation. You can get a reservation and ticket at the Service Internationale ticket section (the other is service interieur, which is where you buy tickets for destinations in Belgium) in the Gare du Midi. <BR>If it's possible to buy your tickets in advance, do so. If you are arriving on a holiday week-end, the trains could be sold out. Also, the more in advance you buy your tickets, the more likely you are to get a better rate.<BR>I usually take the Thalys first class to Paris and it's very comfortable. There is nothing wrong with second class, but I like the extra room and service and less crowded feel of first class. <BR>P.S. If you arrive in Brussels Airport's new Terminal A, be prepared for a "wow" experience. It is SO much nicer than any terminal I have encountered in Europe!! Everything is sparkling brand new. But be prepared to walk. Although there are moving sidewalks and escalators/elevators throughout, you still feel like you're covering miles.

Both the TGV and the Thalys go to Brussels to/from France. <BR><BR>I'd reserve in advance -- the TGV was very crowded when I went.<BR><BR>And I'd go first class too -- more room for your bags. Families generally go in 2nd class (families bring more baggage), business people generally go 1st class.
