TGV Experience

It's a very fast train. When you pass other trains, be prepared for a huge "shudder." I've never traveled 1st class - 2nd class has always been comfortable enough for me. There is nothing to pass the time unless you make it - I always have a book to read and/or notes to take. If you've never been on a train before, this should be a great experience, as it is incredibly fast and comfortable.

I travelled in the Bordeaux region 2 days ago on the TGV and enjoyed it enormously-the train does 137-187 miles per hour depending on the route.I enjoyed the sense of speed you get when you look out the window but the travel itself is very smooth. There is a bar-restaurant car on the train.See www.TGV.com for more details and online booking.

We rode the TGV from Montpelier to Paris CDG in April of 2000 (part of this route is on regular track). We got a special deal, so we took 1st class. We had also taken 2nd class on other French trains that trip. If you can afford the extra cost, you will find 1st class a bit more roomy with less people. We talked, read, played cards, looked out the window. Bring your own food, its cheaper and probably tastes better and is cheaper than the stuff sold on the train if the dining area is even open.
