Is there a station serving the TGV in the Dourdogne region?

No there isn't. One of the best things about the Dordogne is that it's hard to get to - also one of the worst things. You can take the TGV to Bordeaux, and then you have about a 3-hour drive to the heart of the Dordogne. Or you can take a regular train to Périgueux, and then you have about a 45-minute drive to the heart of the Dordogne. This presumes "heart of the Dordogne" to mean the Périgord Noir, where all the prehistoric sites are. You can also take various trains to Brive-la-Gailarde, Sarlat, Libourne, even trains to small towns in the Périgord Noir, but the connections may be difficult and time-consuming. Where in the Dordogne are you headed?

Rocamadour

The TGV stops at Angouleme, just north of Perigeux, which may be an easier drive than from Bordeaux - much traffic and many buses on the road.

Joey: <BR>Rocamadour isn't in the Dordogne, but no matter. I don't know what trains go to Rocamadour, or even if there are trains, though I suspect there are. Try going to www.sncf.com and plugging in Paris (or whereever you're originating from) and Rocamadour. I know you'll need to make at least one stop. <BR> <BR>And no, the drive from Angoulème into the Périgord is definitely not easier than from Bordeaux. You have to skirt Périgueux and deal with truck-infested roads all the way. It's a far easier slog straight in from Bordeaux. Also a much prettier drive.

Joey: <BR> <BR>There is a way to see the Dordogne valley and parts of the Midi-Pyrenees that no one has suggested, although it will take a bit longer. You can take a TGV to Toulouse. From there, you can drive one hr north to Cahors, and be within striking distance of Sarlat, Figeac, Rocamadour, Beynac and other towns in the region as well. If you have the time (TGV is 5 hrs to Toulouse), this may be an alternative you may wish to investigate. <BR> <BR>The other option is the TGV to Limoges, 3 hrs from Paris, and head south from there. <BR> <BR>Regards.. <BR> <BR>Luis

Joey/Luis: Unless one has materialized in the past two weeks, there is no TGV to Limoges. It's a regular train, takes 3 hours from the Gare d'Austerlitz, and the train on to Périgueux takes another two. <BR>Taking the TGV to Toulouse might work. The A20 is usually pretty congested on the road to Cahors, but once in Cahors, you're less than an hour from Rocamadour.This only works if you have a car, though.
