With the very recent change in US covid travel policy, I changed my flight to tomorrow (Sunday). Tomorrow will be day 10 since symptoms started and I will have been symptom-free for over 48 hours, so I feel confident that I can travel without endangering others. I will, of course, wear a mask everywhere I go.

Both of my flights take off after 12:01am EDT, so I shouldn’t be asked for a letter of recovery, but I still can’t help being nervous. Since the new policy hasn’t gone into effect yet, all of my flight info is still saying I need a negative test or letter of recovery. I’m praying that will be updated tomorrow and I can board without issue. My sister actually made the change for me; I would have changed the flight to Monday or Tuesday, if I’d been the one on the phone.

Because I didn’t get official test results until several days after infection, I’m not yet eligible for a letter of recovery if I wanted to have one, just in case.

This has certainly been an adventure!
Good luck and I hope you get home without any more complications! I’m glad to hear you’re feeling well and have been symptom-free for over 48 hours. From my understanding of the CDC rules and information I received from my doctor, you should be safe to travel with a mask.

We are doing well though we are also safe at home and not stuck in a hotel room somewhere!

My comment was only a general comment. Not aimed at any one person. And yes I think catching covid on a plane ride - with everyone now suddenly unmasked and testing not required in many places now - will continue to be a real possibility for this next wave of travelers

My point was one is just as likely to catch the vid at Trader Joe's as on a plane . . . that's all

I am in and out of Trader Joe's in under 20 minutes and I am not crammed into a space with anyone.

Agree completely! Sitting for hours on end in a plane is a completely different experience than going shopping at Trader Joe’s.

I'd probably feel the same if squished in coach. I typically fly transatlantic in business on AA which is in a 1-2-1 configuration so I'm never next to anyone -and there are high walls around the individual 'suites'. The only people I'd come in relatively close contact with are the FAs / purser and usually it's only the two FAs that serve in either aisle. A lot less interaction/proximity with people than shopping or dining out.

We were in Biz but even so, only 20% of people were wearing masks. One FA wore a mask, the other one didn't. We also sat on the runway in Newark for 2 1/2 hours, and even if the air was still circulating, you're still in a small area. I have no doubt that this is where we contracted COVID since it's the only place where we were around so many unmasked people in a small, enclosed environment. We've flown several times over the last year and this was the most exposed.

@memejs, I hope you are safe at home now!!!

progol - I am home! I just started my trip report. I'll write in detail about my covid experience (a HUGE thank you to everyone on this thread who provided info and advice), but first I get to go back and re-live/write about all of the good parts of the trip! I hope you're feeling better as well.

Good news, memejs! I’m so glad to see this. I look forward to your trip report now, too!

I think it's the luck of the draw. We flew business, but for the LHR to Nice flight we got stuffed on a bus to get to the plane, boarded, got all settled with all and sundry unmasked filing past, then instructed to put on masks for the flight as they were still supposedly required in France. Thankfully we made it through the trip without contracting Covid. I don't know if the 2nd booster helped but maybe we can attribute it to that.

Memejs, I look forward to your TR.
