Level 3 -- I need to get out (and travel) more!

Wednesday May 4th, 2005 06:14 AM

I won't lie, I took it once and got 66%, average of 250 miles...Eastern Europe was difficult for me...sigh.

GreenDragon May 4th, 2005 06:34 AM

I was real lucky in Eastern Europe -- I got the big ones (like Bulgaria and the Ukraine) first, so the other fit in more nicely. I got 80% and within 96 miles...

Tallulah May 4th, 2005 06:40 AM

79% - and I live here! Damn!

Wednesday May 4th, 2005 06:41 AM

:-) I got all the small Eastern European countries first....ouch.

AnselmAdorne May 4th, 2005 06:51 AM

Hmmm ... 84%. Those tiny countries are a challenge.

Anselm

BTilke May 4th, 2005 06:54 AM

80%. I got some of the small Eastern European countries off. And I don't feel TOO bad that I placed San Marino off a little or wasn't far enough south for Malta. A fun test...I'd like to see how Europeans do putting the 50 states in their correct spots ;-)

Rookie May 4th, 2005 07:06 AM

I'd like to see how AMERICANS do putting 50 states in their correct locations! (Or mayby not.)

Kert May 4th, 2005 07:11 AM

84%, not bad but I do live in Europe. BTilke, locating US states would be fun, but states aren't countries, are they? Wouldn't that be a bit like trying to place British counties?

Kate May 4th, 2005 07:16 AM

84%. And I got all the baby countries first, which is SO unfair. Lichtenstein? San Marino? Malta? I was about 1000 miles out on these.

I would be terrible at placing US states, but Kert does have a point.

BTilke May 4th, 2005 07:18 AM

Yes, that's true, but so many Europeans like to mock Americans' knowledge of geography (although I wonder how well they would score on placing the little Eastern European countries), it would be interesting to see them try. Also, America is much more in the international news (i.e., Michael Jackson trial in California, GWB from Texas, 9/11 in New York, Disney World and hurricanes in Florida, etc.) than British counties...that gives them a running start.

nytraveler May 4th, 2005 07:21 AM

84% - you're right - it's hard to know exactly where to position San Marino etc.

And I wold love to see the average American have to place the states (esp the ones that think New Mexico and Hawaii are foreign countries.)

Rookie May 4th, 2005 07:26 AM

"Mayby" . . . should be Maybe

Well, now that I see "Level 3" is part of the title, I went back . . .

My first time through I was presented with mostly smaller and Eastern countries first. I think I got 33 of 44 (75%) but I don't remember the mileage part. The second time I got more Western countries first, but I still don't know the Eastern ones well enough. Only improved my score by 4 countries to 84%. I need to travel more! That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

mm May 4th, 2005 07:29 AM

84% but I got ripped off by Finland. I let go of my cursor too fast.

Seamus May 4th, 2005 07:29 AM

84%, average error 135 miles - which may help explain that driving trip in Bavaria that somehow wound up in Italy...

lobo_mau May 4th, 2005 07:34 AM

level 3, 75%, 129 miles, I'm not too proud

VickiH May 4th, 2005 07:40 AM

93%, average error 18 miles....

but then i do live in the UK, so you'd hope so, really, wouldn't you?

difficult to place moldova and liechtenstein when there's nothing else on the map!

somewhere i once found a similar thing for US states. i was completely useless at it, but if i can find it again i'll post the link...

lobo_mau May 4th, 2005 07:42 AM

I had problems locating Molvania

JamesA May 4th, 2005 07:47 AM

80% and 57 miles error, but I am from Asia ( Got 94% with a 31 mile error on Asia, I had Mongolia out ). Must say great fun, got caught on the San Marino, Andorra types, they have sections for all the world.

To the poster who asked about the US states yes, they do have one, here's the main worldwide menu

Clifton May 4th, 2005 08:09 AM

95%, 12 miles, 140 sec. I got Moldova as the first country and then had Malta all wrong.

I think I'd do pretty bad with the Africa version!

tcreath May 4th, 2005 08:09 AM

Great game! I got 89% right with an average error of 42 miles. The first one threw me because it was the Czech Republic, but once I got that one the rest came fairly easily. I should try again and see what I get!

I did so badly that I decided to try again. Until I got 80%, 135 miles.

I need to take remedial lessons. :-)

JamesA May 4th, 2005 09:06 AM

It seems to 'start' with different country/sequence so if you are lucky and get Russia first you can quickly get a lot of the others.

ncgrrl May 4th, 2005 10:04 AM

This was on the US board awhile back. Here you're complaining about Eastern Europe first. On the US board, people complained about central states first (Oklahoma, Nebraska, Wyoming, etc.). I did Europe after US, I don't remember my score, but then I went to South America and yikes, my score was miserable.

Kate_W May 4th, 2005 10:29 AM

I'd like to see the US residents put the Canadian provinces and territories in the right place (I almost said "US Fodorites", but then I realized that US Fodorites like to travel and probably have a better idea of where New Brunswick is than I do ...)
