When went there it was full of tourists. What also struck me after talking to one or two of them was most of the people going there were either jewish or of jewish decend and weer there for a reason. Some were praying at places that had a spirtual meaning, or they come to see the horroe of what happened to there fore fathers. For some that is not jewish I found it very intrtseting and a moving experience as we went out rouns some of the 6 historic sites covered by the entrance price charged.

(Still in what passes for a British Airways lounge at PRG... bleh. And all this so we can fly to Heathrow tonight. Double bleh.)
There are around 1600 local Jewish families known to the JCC in Prague, plus an undetermined number of expats. But it's a growing group. |
Meant to add, there were more cops visible today copmpared to yesterday near the Alt-Neu Shul as we passed in the cab, plus lots of cops with "explosive detection" patches on their uniforms, a couple with nice doggies, at the airport.

News from Radio Prague about prank terrorist calls: (9/24/06) "The extraordinary security measures have also inspired several prank callers, complicating the situation for police. The first serious threat came on Saturday, shortly after the news of the terrorist threat was made public. A bomb threat forced the closure of Prague's metro line 'C', but a police investigation found nothing. An anonymous bomb threat was also called in to the Marriott hotel in Prague 3 early Sunday morning, forcing the evacuation of 200 hotel guests. Police searched the premises but found no explosives. Police are warning that if the prank callers are identified and found guilty, they face up to five years in jail." The Marriot they are referring to is no doubt the swanky new one across from the Flora Mall. I had brunch there in August, and it's a great hotel. Kind of scary to think about staying in a hotel that's a target... hmmm.. |

not surprising..Czech Republic has very few Jews >>>>>> Genocide will do that to a place. That is the heartbreaking part. |
I think it is important to point out that although this is the first "credible" alert for Prague that this is due to the recent problems in Hungary. There was, indeed, a very heavy Police presence throughout the city centre over the weekend.
