Terrace in Tuscany
We are looking for a hotel for 5 nights in May in either Montalcino or Montepulciano where we can reserve a room with a terrace/balcony. 100-175E. Please help. (Note-the room with the balcony at Il Giglio is booked.) Thanks!

I have been looking for a room in southern Tuscany with a terrace or balcony also. They seem to be hard to come by. Good luck.

Check out this website for info.
http://www.castellobanfi.com/montal_stay.html Dei Capitani may be what you are looking for. |
Look at Poitian apts. in Montepulciano or La Costa in Montefollinico at www.lacosta.it

Dei Capitani - Montalcino:
I saw this hotel on a travel video I watched about hill towns of s tuscany. The host of the video had a room there, and the views from his balcony were breathtaking. He said to ask for a room on the "valley" side of the hotel. We're going to stay at an agriturismo, but if I wanted to be in town, this is what I would have picked: Dei Capitani http://www.deicapitani.it/ If you click on "Hotel" then "Rooms" you'll get one of the balcony views. When I emailed them, I believe the rate was around 103E/nt for beginning of September. Hope this helps. |
deanna,
What was the name of that video? |
Kao, the name of the video which I saw also was In Search of Tuscany with John Guerrassio .

Sorry I meant christhetraveler although kao may like to know too.

You might want to look at the apartments at the top of Montepulciano called Al Poggiolo, see http://www.tiscali.it/no-redirect-ti...giolo_home.htm
Although they only rent by the week -- that price of 580 euro divided by 5 still comes out to about 115 euro per night. Nice big apartment. The unit with the balcony is #3. This place has been highly recommended here. Although I haven't stayed there yet, we will for a week in June. |
Glad I checked. Although that address shows as my bookmark, it doesn't seem to be right. Try this one instead:

Sorry, haven't been checking the board. But grimmy is right, it was In Search of Tuscany with John Guerrassio. Got it at my local library.

FWIW, I also found Dei Capitani reviewed in Cadogan's "Tuscany" by Dana Facaros and Michael Pauls.
Says "Dei Capitani is an old palazzo with wonderful views, plus a small pool and (a rarity in Montalcino) a car park." |
