Gee, when they got ready to take our pictures, we said, "no thanks, we won't buy them anyway". They left us alone.
I think some of this could be better arranged. Like why go clear over to Tower Hill twice, once for the Tower Bridge and once for the Tower of London? I'd try to combine some of these things to do while you're in the same area.
And they'd be carrying me home by mid afternoon of that first day! Plus I'd never see more than the first 15 minutes of Lord of the Rings -- the rest would be studying the insides of my eye lids!

Has anyone here every taken a day trip to Richmond or Highgate? If so, what did you think? I know Hampton Court Palace is in the Richmond area, and Highgate Cemetary is in the Highgate area, but what do you guys think about these areas?

well, I live around the highgate area and so am naturally partial to it, but, hampton court and highgate offer completey different environments.
Are you a castle buff or do you want to wander old streets and foggy cemetries? Do you have a good history book or guide for highgate?
To be honest I'd probably not spend more than 1/2 day in highgate on a 7 day 1st trip to London. If you do decide to go with highgate, I'd suggest that you combine a cemetry tour with london walks tour of hampstead. arm yourself with alondon A-Z and walk the couple of miles from the cemetery to the hampstead tube.

Look for the book "The Perfect London Walk" by Roger Ebert (yes, the movie critic). The entire book covers one great walk through Hampstead, Hampstead Heath, and Highgate. It is a great area to explore.
But on short/first trip - I'd probably recommend Hampton Court Palace and Richmond.

I visited Richmond on my last visit, and just loved it. I wish I had discovered it earlier. One thing I did there, and it's probably specific to me and my hometown, is visit the grave of Captain George Vancouver. He is buried in a small churchyard in that area, and it was a kick to explore the history of the American Pacific Northwest when I was in England.
Richmond is easy to reach, too, being the last stop on that Tube line.

You can indeed get to Richmond on the tube - but you'd be mad to do so.
There are regular, quick overground trains that only take about 15 mins.
Highgate does have a vampire you know:

Thanks for all of your input! I appreciate all of your replies! Please throw out anything you can for me! All input is very much appreciated. I think that Highgate/Hampstead is going to win my vote for a day trip on my last day. Something about Highgate Cemetery and Hampstead Heath really draws me. Does anyone have any suggestions for good, cheap (hahaha, may be hard to find!), places to eat there in London? This is an aspect I haven't had the chance to check out a lot, and so far I plan on going to Wagamama (yum!) and the Hard Rock Cafe. Last time I went to Burger King a lot, and really want to stay away from that and eat at some different places! Any suggestions of any great Italian or Greek restaurants? Also, all other suggestions would be great!

I heard that the Cutty Sark suffered a fire. Is it back? Greenwich is a great trip, will take at least half a day. Hampton Court is also quite worthwhile, again at least half a day. Look up London Walking tours, which has some really informative and interesting routes.

Oh, my word, please don't go to Burger King! Dionysus at the corner of Tottenham Court & Oxford Street is very reasonably priced and has good gyros, if that fits your definition of Greek food. I eat lots of Wagamama and Pret a Manger (they're everywhere) when I'm in London. You can get a baguette sandwich, crisps and a drink at Pret for about five pounds. Marks & Spencer also has a large prepared foods section where you can grab a yummy picnic lunch quite inexpensively. The grocery stores (Sainsbury's, Tesco) also have a lot more prepared sandwiches, salads, etc. than most stores in the US.

ASK Pizza is good and is much more than a pizza restaurant. It is a chain, and I know there is one on a street beside Victoria Station and one located in the mini-mall at the Gloucester Road tube station.
