Tennis Holiday - August
I am interested in an instructinal tennis holiday (a few hours a day) w/ lite touring mixed in. Clay courts are preferable, as is a coastal location. I'm thinking Spain, Portugal, but am open to suggestions based on your experience. We will be 2 single women. Naturally want a safe environment, surrounding nightlife would be great. I've never been to either Spain or Portugal before, so some worthy sites nearby would be a plus. Your kind response and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I have no experience of tennis holidays, but if you google <tennis holiday>, it will bring up many possibilities in many places, including Spain and Tuscany.
But before you decide to do so in August, I would suggest that you check out www.weatherbase.com for historical temperature records in various parts of Spain, Portugal and Italy. You are probably hardier than I am, but just the thought of playing tennis in August in southern Europe is enough to make me wilt. |
We had a wonderful time playing on clay last summer in Chamonix, but we didn't take instruction. Here is one in Italy, in the mountains rather than near the beach, but it looks pretty nice:
http://www.vandermeertennis.it/ (choose a language to get more photos, etc.) The weather in August would be better than in southern Spain, I think. |
If you plan on playing tennis in southern Spain in August I would have an ambulance on hand. Temps are often over 100 and humid - and you need to be careful about hydrating, not overexerting and staying out of the sun except in early am.

No professional players play here in Spain in summer and there's no tournaments ...the previous posters told you why :) So I don't think you will find that in summer.

Thank you all for your kind responses. You've certainly given me good reason to rethink my intentions. If I'm committed to tennis, I will consider a different local and clime. Thanks again.
