Tell me about the Dupleix Metro stop area of Paris
 

A friend asked me about an apartment she saw online and since I have not gone on my trip yet, I told her I would look into it online. So I come to the experts. For her it would be an adult only trip......November. What is the area like ? Have you stayed there? Pros and cons. Thanks for all advice.

It is an upper middle class area but has plenty of shops. Besides Montparnasse and the Eiffel Tower, there are not a huge number of places to which most people would feel like walking from there.

I think it's kind of boring myself but perfectly acceptable. I just think that newish area and the part around that antiques shopping area (Villages Suisse) is rather sterile. I don't like the area right around the Eiffel Tower, though, on any side. It's just as cozy or neighborhoody as the areas I prefer to stay, that's all, hard to describe. I guess the area in-between bd Grenelle and the Champ de Mars isn't that interesting to me in various ways. I might be wrong as I've only been through there several times, but I didn't get the feeling of a lot of neighborhood cafes or restaurants.

On the other hand, just a few blocks to the east you have the Motte-Picquet metro and it starts getting more interesting.

For most people who don't know Paris well, and are just there a few days as a new tourist, it would be fine, I'm sure. I'm just more picky about where I stay in Paris. I don't like most of the 7th, either. I do like the 15th, however, just farther south.

Great area. Very safe at all hours. When I go to Paris, I stay at the Best Western on Rue Viale, which is right where the Dupliex station is located. On Rue Viale. Right across the hotel, is a great neighborhood restaurant, fantastic food and moderate prices. There are also other good restaurants in the immediate area. The Dupliex station is very convenient for travels to all areas of Paris. It is an easy walk to the Eiffel Tower. One of the best Italian restaurants I have visited is on the way to the Eiffel Tower. It is opposite the Bir Hakeim train station, which is the station before or after Dupliex, depending on the way you travel, The name of the restaurant is Iolanda's.
Another story-- On the way back from central Paris, the metro is a subway. Just when it goes above ground, before the Bir Hakeim station, when you emerge from the underground portion, you wlii go over a bridge. That short time interval wlii give you the absolute best view of the Eiffel Tower, from the train. If you have a camera ready, you can get the most fabulous picture of the Tower, with the Seine in the foreground.

This is not coming back from central Paris. That's coming from l'Etoile and the 16th <i>arrondissement</i>. Since this line encircles the Left Bank, one would need to travel east of Dupleix to La Motte Picquet Grenelle or Montparnasse to switch to a north-south line to get to the center of Paris.
