telegraph travel awards

These awards are presented by a British (serious) newspaper, and has thrown up a few suprises for me:

(i) London doesnt make the top three UK Cities;
(ii) Iceland is in the top three European destinations and co-incides with many word of mouth glowing reports about the place;
(iii) Fodors (Forum) never seems to get recognition despite my beliefs that its one of the best sources of good information (see awards for best travel websites).

Here is the full list:

Good to see the maninseat61 getting an award.

I suspect though that on the whole these awards say more about Telegraph readers than the award winners.

"these awards say more about Telegraph readers"

The Telegraph is by a very considerable margin Britain's best read serious newspaper.

Which is why it's fashionable among the bigotted to dismiss it, and the people who read it. Worst of all: it actually pays its way.

Obviously, awards conferred by readers of papers no-one bothers with (like the news-free opinion sheet, The Independent, owned by a Russian kleptocrat, and entirely dependent on his stolen wealth to stay alive) are far more important.
