tegel airport by sbahn/ubahn?
i was checking my subway maps for a summer trip to berlin when i noticed there is no u bahn/sbahn connection to tegel airport.
only a dotted line which i think means bus link. is it possible that the ubahn network which appears so extensive on the map doesnt go to the nearby airport? anyone know the logic behind this decision to exclude airport from trains? or is my map wrong? thanks |
There are three airports in Berlin; no the train does not go to Tegel. There is frequent bus service to the center or you can take a cab.
Unfortunately, you've picked the airport that doesn't have rail service. |
Well, a U-Bahn link to Tegel has always been planned (initially just to Jungfernheide, but ultimately as the western terminus of the U5 line). For one reason or another, it has never been built though, most recently because once the new Berlin Brandenburg Int'l Apt is operational, Tegel should be shut down & thus no need. Another reason is that Berlin is completely broke.
In any case, bus connections are pretty good, with direct links to Zoo Station, and the Reichstag/B'burg gate area (to which the TXL bus only takes 15 mins or so, and you pass the ring S-Bahn at Westhafen, and the U9 at Turmstr.). |
that makes sense. thanks

There is an S-bahn stop close to the airport on the ring line. From there, there is a direct bus service which makes maybe 3 stops before getting to the airport.

yes i check the map again.there are even 2 ubahn stops on the end of the runway (Scharnweberstr & Kurt Schumacher pl) but the distance is 2km from the terminal. all they needed was a moving sidewalk (or sky shuttle or orlyval equivilent if they wanted to impress).
i am staying near zoo.should i get the tegel bus from there or catch it at this Sbahn station (do you remember its name?) thanks |
