Teenage Grandson and Italy
I'm seriously considering taking my 16 year old grandson to Rome. His reaction will likely be "EDUCATION grandpa???" He loves motocross and golf and I'd love to find a way to combine a first trip to another country with one of his loves. I do golf but am pretty rusty so motorcycles would be best. Ideas??? We plan for around the 10 June 08. Thx

Hi C,
>His reaction will likely be "EDUCATION grandpa? To which you will, of course, reply with a pleasant grandfatherly chuckle and a twinkle in the eye, "You wanna go to Europe or do you wanna spend the time working at the car wash?". Is he really that spoiled? ((I)) |
Thanks Ira, I needed that. I still think it would be nice to consider some of his likes and get to a motorcycle event or something.

Daily traffic in Rome IS a motorcycle event, pretty much.

Does he like soccer? I regret not taking our 16 year old son to a soccer match last year when we visited Rome; he would have enjoyed that.

There is a huge and popular motorcross track in Tuscany. I remember doing research on it some years ago. I think you can google motocross and Tuscany and get something. |
Thx for your suggestions, not sure about soccer and will look into Tuscany. Also read about factory tours at Ferrari and some other places. In Rome I'm hoping he'll enjoy the sights and we can find a special diversion. Will keep you posted...

Figure an update is in order. We've decided to go to Costa Rica, closer, probably a tad less expensive. Grandson has some anxiety stuff that's very real so this one he can get his arms around. He's been chatting with his geography teacher and is very excited about the trip. Hopefully we'll get a little fishing and golf in as well as some ecotouring.

Our son was just saying the other night that he was really glad he was able to take a trip to Costa Rica a few years ago. He went with a local nature center group at age 14 almost 15.
I hope you and your grandson have a great trip. |
