Teen fashion for London and Paris
 

I am a 15 girl and going to London and then Paris this summer and I just really don't want to have that "tourist" look. So I was wondering if anyone could tell me what people are wearing. I don't want people to be wearing nudes, and pastels, and I show up in bright colorful clothing... So any help with:
Shirts/tops
Pants
Skirts
Shoes
Hair

Are you talking about regular daily dress or getting dressed up to go out?

European kids tend to wear jeans with sneakers or sandals (in the summer) with a variety of tees. Neither bright colors of pastels are really popular - its' mostly blue, black or khaki pants and black, white or neutral tops. (When they're not wearing uniforms - in europe many schools have uniforms through high school.)

If you're talking about dressed up for an event or being very high fashion - most kids aren't - but you can figure out what they're wearing by looking at the european teen magazines you can get at any large newsstand - or check out online.

Most are wearing hair. For girls mostly long and straight.

I just got back from both places and 15 year old girls there wear the same thing 15 year old girls wear here.

The clothing is quite similar, but French girls do not do weird things to their hair or put on makeup with a trowel.

Or show their thongs.

Does your hometown have an H&M? I would start there. Buy a scarf.

French girls usually leave their hair alone; long, straight (but not flat iron straight), loose buns, braids, or pony tails nothing extreme.

English girls are more likely to flat iron, then place their part just above one ear and swoop all of their hair over the top of their heads!

I think both nationalities accessorize more than their American counterparts. Somehow it seems like the French girls always add the perfect amount and the English girls add one too many!

In London head for Oxford St. Some of the stores there for teen girls include: H&M, New Look, Jane Norman, Primark and of course, TopShop which has about three floors of teen girl heaven! I think there is probably a Mango store too.

From Oxford St. you can find Regent St. and Carnaby St which is teen shopping and strolling heaven as well.
All of these stores have websites, Google them and check it out in advance.

In Paris: Also H&M, Mango, Zara. Etam,Cite de la Femme at 73 rue de Rivoli: this is a five floor dept store including a cafe, beauty dept and hair stylist. The teen clothing is apparently priced low to moderate with high fashion looks.
There is a Diesel Concept store at 19 rue de Pavee in the Marais district, might be a little more pricey but great stuff.

There is also Monoprix which is a big chain with lots of budget fashion, but they are maybe best for accessories and grooming items.

But you're going to look like a tourist anyway. And no-one will give a stuff whether you do or not.

My 15 year old daughter is obsessing over her wardrobe for our London/Paris trip in June also. She is bringing jeans, a few tees, sandals, and dresses. She's bringing casual "sundresses" for the day and a nicer dress with heels for going out at night to nice restaurants. Also a light cardigan and jacket, like a blazer to wear over dresses depending on the weather. Its her 1st time going so she's been planning her clothing options for months. Have a great time!

I hope she's; bringing more than sandals or her feet will get very wet and dirty when it rains - and it will. (And if she's used to living in a suburb and driving everywhere - hope she gets used to walking everywhere - both in the wet and the dry - make sure all shoes are comy!)

Trust me teens do not have the feet problem we adults do and can walk all day in a pair of flip flops. We have traveled quite a bit with our two teenagers, and our daughter (almost 19) usually wears sandals or flip flops all day when we are traveling in warm weather. She never complains. If you do expect rain, then obviously, a closed toe shoe will be necessary to have as well.

I think flip flops would be perfect if it rains, why ruin a good pair of shoes.
