Thanks for the recommendations!
If you were going to Rome I would say there is a lot more things to see in Rome than via Accoiuoulo

Great report, thanks.
I've emailed sleepinitaly.com to see if your apartment is available for when we are there--sounds like a dream!

dloech: I went onto the sleepinitaly site and the listing seems to have vanished. The only explanation I can suggest is that the owners have taken it back for full time use by a family member -- too bad.

Just back from Italy and can recommend Pierluigi restaurant in your original post. We ate there twice and found the food to be very good and the prices average.

If you want an outside table then you need to reserve (same day is fine).

The restaurant is located a couple of minutes walks from Campo dei Fiori. Go through Piazza Farnese and turn right on Via de Monserrato. It's about 2 blocks down on the left. The front door opens on the very small Piazza Ricci, rather than on Monserrato.

I had reserved the apartment mentioned a few months ago and when checking with sleep in italy 2 weeks ago on some minor detail, I was told that the owner has decided to sell the apartment. I will always wonder when they were going to notify me, before or after I arrived. Needless to say, I have found another apartment with another agency. Gerrie

Ted, you seem to be a good source of information. My husband and I are planning a trip to Italy. A couple days in Rome, a day or two in wine country, and a week on the Isle of Ischia. We are debating between Tuscany and Umbria. Any suggestions? Keep in mind we only have 2 days 1 night. Any recommendations for where to stay? Love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks

Great trip report. Thank you. I'm going to save it to use on my next trip to Rome (although I'm not yet totally sure when that will be).

dsemmel: At the risk of igniting a controversy on this board --

1. Tuscany is generally favoured over Umbria on this board. More famous wines, certainly.

2. You have only a little time; the issue is really where you can get the richest experience in a limited time.

3. I suggest that you find somewhere near a main train line.

4. Siena is an astonishing town for a quick trip.

5. I have also posted about our wonderful time in Montepulciano -- great cellars that you can visit and where you can taste the Vino nobile di Montepulciano. The greater name in southern Tuscany is the wine Brunello di Montalcino -- Montalcino is more remote though

(Montepulciano is on a train line but the station is several miles from town. Check with trenitalia for any town or city that you consider)

Glad to hear you got as advertised from sleepinitaly.com

Just reserved an apartment from them for next April in the Piazza Navona/Campo de Fiori area.

I can hardly wait!

Tegdale,
I have been trying to figure out which apartment you rented and can't find one called the San Salvatore. Can you give me the link? Also, did it have interet access by any chance?

Dear Ted,

Thank you so much for adding yet more restaurants to my ever-growing Restaurant's List!

I'll be staying in an apartment in the same area as well, so I needed more recommendations to the oh, I dunno....THIRTY FIVE I have now.

A week is just not long enough to experience all this - in order to eat at every place on my list I think I need about a month - and that's not even counting gelato!

I picture myself like those old Frank Buck movies where the boa constrictor eats something like an entire pig and sits there for 3 days with a huge mound in it's middle trying to digest it! It's not a pretty picture.

Even funnier, at some point I actually thought that having the apartment would cut down on costs, as I might actually COOK one or two nights...haahahahhahaha
WHAT WAS I THINKING?

Thanks for a great report!

Regards,

Melodie

sharkmom: I heard through the Fodors grapevine that the owners, who live in Milan, have decided to sell the apartment and thus have taken it off the rental market. A pity!
