We were out late together at night. We often didn't finish dinner until midnight. It's not that we are normally night owls - but the combination of jet lag and a different schedule (we always took a rest about 5:00) helped.

No, I probably would not have been terribly happy about them carousing around later than that alone. Campo is full of "kids" (probably older than you might think - many 30+ year olds live at home with mom and dad in Italy due to their economy, and they come into the city at night to gather) at night, and they are mostly drinking, flirting etc. It seems pretty harmless, but if kids didn't know anyone I don't know what they'd do there. There are lots of cops there, but I witnessed at least one of them drinking too in the patrol vehicle.

Here is my old trip report:

Have a great trip.

wliwl,
Thanks so much!!! You've given me great information, especially since the boys are about the same ages! Loved the pictures too!

Which Italian CD did you use to help with simple phrases? We don't know any Italian either, but will definitely try to learn a few words!

Oh gee, I've loaned the tapes to my friend, and now I'm not sure what they were. She is back from Italy, so I'll try to get ahold of them and let you know. Sorry 'bout that. I went through Amazon and couldn't spot it. Maybe you could try the Lonely Planet CDs. They are usually adequate. Be sure to bring a phrase book along.

Here is a web site that's good for starters. You can burn the lessons on a CD for free and listen to them in the car.

Have fun! It's good to know some words. Concentrate of FOOD words! I needed to know how to order the right quantity of cheese for instance, or one piece of pizza, that sort of thing.

wliwl,

Wow, awesome website!!! I am so terrible when attempting to speak new languages, but at least I try! You should have heard me trying to speak Spanish while in Costa Rica! Pretty funny!

Also, thanks for the great tips about ordering out. Are most of the menus in Italian only? I think I'm in trouble!!!
