Teach english aboard

Hello fellow wayfarers,
I am seeking your insights and contacts to be able to teach English abroad.
Not new graduate, but desire to travel and work in Europe -- Spain, Italy....

I am a former English teacher who wishes to expand my horizons through more international cultural experiences.

Thank you for your insights and assistance,..Happy travels!

What is your nationality? Unless you hold an EEA or Swiss passport, or otherwise have the right to work, no employer will be interested as you need a very-hard-to-obtain work visa. There is a glut of English teachers from UK, Ireland or with settled status with the right to work, and in the current economic slump, job market is shrinking and many experienced teachers are out of work.

If you are American, the only way to do it would be private lessons that you secure. And if you are American your time will be limited to three months by the Schengen agreement.

Dangerous advice, as this would be under-the-table-work, i.e. illegal.

I think there was someone asking the exact same question on there some time in the past year, maybe you can find the post. I think she didn't realize that just because you were a former English teacher in the US doesn't automatically qualify you at all to teach English as a foreign language, although some teaching experience helps. But there is no mention of credentials for teaching English to foreigners which is basically like teaching a foreign language, not like teaching English in the US, as well as the work permit issue. And then you can't be teaching school and traveling around at the same time, either. I think the other person also had the criteria of it only being some certain time of year and decided maybe it was easier to save money and just take a vacation.

A friend of mine qualified to teach English as a foreign language and did 2 stints in Poland doing so for two different companies. It is a different skill set than teaching English to regular students - and she got a certificate from the program at Columbia before she applied.

Also, compensation was minimal since it included housing. She did it for the chance to spend time in her ancestors homeland.
