Tea house near Paddington Station

Hello; my wife and a friend have a 7 hr layover at Heathrow and want to take the tube into Paddington Station and find a decent teahouse nearby. Anybody have any recommendations?

Teahouse - tearoom as in scones and dry sandwiches, or a workman's café with greasy food or a smart tea at The Ritz?

m_kingdom2:
Probably tearoom, complete with dry sandwiches, although if the Ritz is easily accessable from the Tube and not too dear they might be interested.
Thanks

Luckily, the Ritz is easily accessible from Heathrow on the Piccadilly Line at Green Park station. Step out of the station and the hotel is right there.

I would expect the layover to be somewhat less than 7 hours, given they are flying into Heathrow where there are constant delays. Make sure to leave plenty of time for the return.

First of all - you really don't want to take the tube to Paddington. The Piccadilly tube line that serves Heathrow goes nowhere near Paddington. If you want to go via Paddington (I don't see why you would) you should take the HEX (Heathrow Express) train. The tube would take you approx 45 minutes to Green Park (the Ritz). You must make advance reservations at the Ritz - the sooner the better.

But a better idea would be to go to Windsor instead. There are several restaurants that do and afternoon tea and it is a LOT closer to LHR. Plus you could take a leisurely walk around the town and along the river and have plenty of time to get back to LHR -- 15 minutes by taxi.

Afternoon tea at the Ritz is £32 and you need to reserve well in advance - a month at the least.

Janis has made an excellent suggestion. Windsor is lovely and would be a very nice way to spend your layover. Less travel time, lots and lots to see, and less stressful than going in to London.
