Tea Dance in London? Sound of Music Sing A Long?
Guidebooks suggest going to either the Savoy or Waldorf for an afternoon tea dance. It isn't clear though, whether there is one on a Saturday afternoon. Does anyone know? Has anyone been to the tea dance?

Events for the last weekend in December include a sing a long to a subtitled sound of music with prizes to the one with the best costume made out of curtains! It is at the Prince Charles Cinema--according to one guidebook used to show "soft porn" movies. Has anyone been to the sing a long or this cinema? Thanks!

Even though I havent been to the sing along, yet, you shouldnt worry about the soft porn part. I heard the sing along is just fabulous, so who cares what movies were shown in the cinema before. By the way, to american standarts most European movies could be considered soft porn.

The Singalong Sound of Music has been dealt with on here before; try a search. It's not porn at all, but it has become a cult, and there are a lot of gay people who go. The baddies are hissed and the good guys cheered and you are all meant to dress up as one of the characters.

It's meant to be a real hoot, but Julie Andrews it ain't

Hi Olivia:

I took my daughter to the Afternoon Tea Dance at the Waldorf this past February. I think we went on a Sunday afternoon, but I am not certain. I got their number from their website and called them directly to make the reservation. They promptly sent me a confirmation.

While we have experienced more savory foods at other teas, I found this tea dance to be both elegant and quite entertaining. Some couples (dancers) were dressed rather elaborately, and some people were clearly observers and dressed casually. My daughter was 12 at the time and loved the whose experience. It is a bit costly, but I think well worth it.

Feel free to e-mail me if you would like more information.

Charlie Girl
