Tea at the Ritz in London

what is the dress attire for afternoon tea?

kaudrey May 14th, 2003 10:53 AM

I believe (but wouldn't swear to this) that men are supposed to wear jackets. For women I would suggest a nice skirt outfit (or pant suit) or a dress.

Hi,
At the Ritz, one *should* wear

men: a blue blazer, white shirt, rep tie, grey or white flannels, black shoes,

women: floral print dresss (below the knee), hat, gloves, black shoes

but they don't anymore.

Follow kaudrey's advice. (A tie for the gentleman would not be out of place.)

Hi
the dress code might be posted on the Ritz hotel website, take a look there under afternoon tea
It's probably jacket for men, no jeans or sneakers/trainers in general

thanks for your help. so you would advice packing a skirt or dress for that event?

amk,
Check out this web page. Tons of information (incl. dress code) about tea places in London (and the UK), the Ritz included.

Hi amk,
My husband and two children took tea at the Ritz 2 weeks ago. Jacket and tie (definitely)for men,and I wore a smart pair of trousers (pants)and a top.
It was a wonderful experience....the food was superb and service exquisite. You will need to book if you have not already done so......essential.Try gofortea.com or the Ritz direct for booking..but hurry. ! You will enjoy every mouthful. y29 for adults and half price for children. Not cheap but worth every penny for the experience. we are still talking about it. Enjoy!

I recently did a search for tea in london on t his site and read a delightful trip summary from a woman who went to tea. I cannot remember her name but I would suggest her post for a breath of fresh air.

One would never wear white flannel trousers with black shoes, ira. One would wear white bucks or white and tan saddle shoes. It is obvious you were never at Harrow.

Ritz is nice for tea, but Browns in Dover Street is even nicer (very old English feel)

Hi thingorjus,

I didn't want to get too detailed. Actually, I was at Harrow.

(I think it was a Tuesday afternoon.)
