Taxis in Paris

Wondering what is the customary tipping percentage for cab rides around the city and would it be same tipping rate for cab from CDG to center of the city. Thanks. Don't plan to use cabs a lot, but perhaps in evening to or from restaurants. Thanks.

Tip taxi drivers less than you might think, 4%-5% and up to the nearest whole euro.

Typically, the cost of a taxi from CDG into central Paris is 45€ to 50€. Adding 3€ or maybe 4€ is more than sufficient. People who are unsure of themselves can sometimes over tip or caution on the side of excess but it is not needed.

Hi M,

No need to tip.

Round off the fare.

Enjoy your visit.

Round up by a few euros. If the driver does something exceptional (as I've experienced several times - like knowing there's a demonstration taking place and knowing exactly how to circumvent it as expeditiously as possible), maybe up to 5%, but it's not expected.

Thanks everyone! Lastly, any taxi "scams" I should be aware of. I've experienced them in other countries and just want to be aware. Thanks.

Generally no, taxis are very reputable.

However, do not accept a ride from CDG by someone offering you one inside of the terminal. Go to the official taxi queue located curbside, in front of each terminal. You may want to have your address written on a piece of paper to hand to the driver to preclude any misunderstanding. If you want to pay with a credit card, let your intentions be known in advance as not all taxis are equipped to accept them.

Finally, there is usually an additional charge above the meter of 1€ per bag after the first and approximately 3€ per person after the 3rd.

Make sure any taxi you get into at the airport says Taxi Parisien, usually on top of the cab on a kind of billboard. Otherwise, no scams I've ever encountered.
