Taxis at CDG....

Any guess on how long the taxis at CDG will be on strike?? I arrive there on Thursday morning. Train or bus is not an option for me.

DonTopaz Dec 15th, 2014 04:46 AM

From what I've read in the French press, it's not clear to me that taxis are unavailable at CDG. Rather, about 50-100 drivers at CDG (plus another 25-50 at Orly) have initiated an "Operation Escargot" (Snail Operation) in which they're driving ultra-slowly on the roads from the airports to the city. This is a protest against Uber and the private car services.

This doesn't seem to be a typical strike which is organized by one of the syndicats (unions) and is often announced in advanced.

So, you could in theory try to arrange a ride through a private car service or through Uber, but that seems to me a bit risky, to say the least.

Thanks. I hope it's all gone away by Thursday.

Uber, according to Pierre-Henry Brandet, is to be banned from operating in France beginning the first of the year.

I wouldn't worry about getting a taxi on Thursday.

You could also try blabla car. Supposedly they are different from because they can't make a profit-they are more of a rideshare option. My nieces and nephews use it all the time-mostly for longer trips to the beach but I see people offering rides from CDG. Probably easier if you speak French....

Taxi drivers don't strike. They are having a protest.

JaneB Dec 15th, 2014 02:47 PM

Really? So do I need to know the difference?

JAMH Dec 15th, 2014 05:48 PM

Just to be clear, the article says that UberPop will be banned and not the other Uber service.

Really? So do I need to know the difference?

That would depend upon whether you needed a taxi or not. A protest does not mean that taxis are unavailable. A strike means it´s unlikely that you will find an available taxi anywhere.

In any case, even the protest fizzled -- there were only about 150 participants out of 17,137 licenced taxis in Paris.

I had no problem getting a taxi from the short queue when I arrived. I paid the 72 euros fare with credit card. I think we took the long way. :)

Gretchen Jan 5th, 2015 03:55 AM

Where were you going? Did you give the driver a written address and a map of your destination?

JaneB Jan 5th, 2015 06:45 AM

Sure did. It was to a hotel near the Eiffle tower

Robert2533 Jan 5th, 2015 07:15 AM

€72? I guess the driver needed some extra cash for Epiphany.

bilboburgler Jan 5th, 2015 07:22 AM

E72, wow, I thought black cabs were rich but 72.
