Taxi vs. Ubahn Connection in Vienna

I'm looking at train schedules online and find that the most desirable departure time arrives at the Wien Sudbahnhof station.

Our hotel is in the Innere Stadt area very close to Franz-Josefs-Kai .

Now my decision, is the distance from Sudbahnhof to the hotel short enough to merit the simplicity of taking a taxi? I'd love to be able to avoid taking the Ubahn with our luggage.

Distance between Franz-Josefs Kai and Sudbahnhof is only 3Km at most.
Though the taxi is no doubt simpler, I have taken the UBahn with a couple of pieces of luggage with no problem during the morning rush. You can use the elevators at the stations rather than the escalators to get to the correct platform. No one will likely give you a second look.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't been able to locate the distance. That certainly sounds "taxi worthy" to me! :D

The Ubahn sounds much "friendlier" to travellers than the Paris metro!

Do you mean "S-Bahn" instead of "U-Bahn"?

I wasn't aware that the U-Bahn went to the Sudbanhof in Vienna.

I stand corrected, it IS the SBahn at Sudbahnhof. You can take it to the Wien Mitte station, then U4 to Schwedenplatz or Schottenring.
OR take the SBahn the other direction one stop to Sudtirolerplatz, then U1 all the way to Schwedenplatz.
It wouldn't be difficult if travelling light.

Thanks for pointing out that it should be Sbahn. I'm still learning! :)
