I hate the Gare du Nord Metro station and it is one of the seamiest in Paris. Do yourself a favor and take a taxi. There will probably even be a van taxi that can take all of you at once. There is a small surcharge for picking up at a gare, small charge for each luggage, and a surcharge for the 4th person--the baby on your lap, with your backpack turned around (like a baby Bjorn?) will be safe--and in my opinion, a lot safer than navigating the metro. The cost for all of you will be under 20€--a bargain for ease and economy. I assume you are arriving on the Eurostar, not coming from CDG.

Travelnut, Virgin doesn't allow you to use your own carseat on anyway so we decided just to leave it at home. We're only visiting London and Paris this trip and it just doesn't seem necessary with all our public transit options.
Ealing... yes, I think my little one will do fine in the metro if we send the parents to the apartment with everything else in a cab. Not arriving during peak commute or big tourism traffic... a monday afternoon. Thanks for the recommendations on the cafes... I have never actually stayed in this neighborhood before (only at the Quai Voltiare) but can't wait to get to Gerard Mulot. Might actually go there FIRST, before I meet up with my parents at the apartment. We'll definitely need some treats after that long journey! Yummy!
Gretchen, that's an interesting idea about putting the baby on my lap with a backpack in front of her. I guess we'll see how we feel when we get there. I just can't imagine a car ride without a carseat since even a fender bender could send her flying. And she's too small for a seatbelt herself. Hmmmm....
