Taxi! Taxi!

Does anyone know of a website that calculates taxi fares in England?

I don't know if the fares are set locally or if there is a general price that varies (a little or a lot) by region. Come to think of it, I don't know if they are even called taxis in the UK.

I will be traveling from Warminster to Stourhead in July and would like to approximate the cost of this trip. Will I need to max out my ATM or is the trip more in the 20 pound range?

Thanks.

Take alook at http://www.westwiltshire.gov.uk/inde...e_hire-Anchor7

Be aware that there are two types of "taxi" in the UK; 1) those that you can pick up at a rank or hail in the street ("Taxis"), and 2) "Private hire cars" which need to be pre-booked for anyone to use them (i.e. they can't cruise around waiting for someone to stop them). Both are legit if used correctly.

The site also contains links to operators; email / call them for a price estimate.

Specs - My local taxi firm quotes £25 from Frome. That's ONE way. Double from Bath.

There are no taxis at Stourhead so you'd have to book a return - and pay for him to wait.

By bus it's about £6.

The cost of the journey itself is rarely the main issue: it's the waiting time.

And as a gebneral rule, if you're hiring a taxi in place A to go to plae B 20 or so miles away, that bit of the transaction is outside any public body's abiloity to interfere with.

The only way you're going to get any kind of sensible estimate is to email a number of operators
