Taxi Protocol for 4 People

Hello all,

We're 2 couples visiting Rome & Florence together. Planning on using taxis occassionaly to get around. What's the protocol for taking taxis with 4 people? Do 3 sit in the back and 1 in the front, all in back or should we take 2 taxis?

Thanks

Anytime I've taken a taxi with 4 people, someone sits up front.

Let me qualify that - someone has always sat up front when it's been a regular sedan.

We've had a couple of minivan type taxis and in those cases we all sat in the back.

I second that. ((*))

We always make the person we like the least ride in the trunk. :)

There is no way 4 adults could sit in the back of a taxi in europe - unless one lays across the other 3. One person sits up front with the driver.

If you have luggage with you, you may well not all fit in one cab (or at least our luggage might not - dpending on how much you have.)

When my husband and I went to Paris with my cousin and his wife, cousin sat up front, and once he had to hold the driver's dog on his lap.

Two in the back seat, one in the front, and one strapped to the front grill. (making the assumption this question was a joke from the beginning)
