Taxi from Train Station in Rome
We will bee arriving in Rome by train from Venice. Where is thwe best place to ge a Taxi. I understand that the main entrance/exit is very chaotic.
|
There are taxi stands at all the mains exits: Piazza Cinquecento, Via Marsala and Via Giolitti. Just make sure you take a taxi from the taxi stand - not from a driver that approaches. you.

When we were there in October there was a line at each taxi stand and very few taxis. We were about the sixth or seventh party back and after about 10 minutes (at the most) a half dozen or more cabs appeared. I was amazed and how orderly it was and how no one tried to cut in front. I was also suprised that we weren't approached by someone offering to take us while we were in line.

This last visit we noticed the taxi line at the main entrance to Termini is now on the left as you exit. It is official looking and even has some example fares listed. There was a line of taxis waiting when we exited, make sure you know what the official logo looks like.

Hi Gardoz - There's an ongoing problem with taxi availability currently at Roma Termini, with potentially queues.
If your hotel is on a bus/metro route I would consider that option. You may well save yourself a long wait. Steve |
All,
Thanks for the advice. I've been to Rome before, but never via train |
We took a taxi from the station to our hotel in October. The driver assured us he knew where it was, but got lost and dropped us at the Campo Fiori and we found our way from there. I am somewhat familiar with the area. Being there only overnight, we had only hand luggage. The concierge at our hotel told us which bus to take back, very simple and much cheaper. I would contact where you are staying and ask which bus to take. I wish I had!

the rate from the termini to the city center is a flate rate of 40euro, back in January. I was approached by a non-regualted cabbie and he quoted me 70 euro.
|
sandi, are you talking about Termini or the airport?
A taxi from Termini (the train station) to the historic center (Pantheon area) is <15 Euros. |
I apologize, it was from the airport not the train station.

I got this tip from someone on this board for our upcoming trip. We booked a car with romeshuttlelimousine.com for 35 Euros from the airport into Rome. You email them your info and you can have a driver and private car waiting for you at the airport, holding up your name. I think its a much better way to go and cheaper!. I emailed my hotel and they quoted me 60 euro for a car service.
Do a search and check out their website. TS |
