Taxi from airport for 4?
My family and I will be arriving in Paris in the morning on July 1. There are four of us and I was wondering if getting a taxi for us and our luggage (for a week's stay) will be a problem. Maybe I should book a shuttle? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi PP,
The dispatcher at the taxi stand will find you a van able to accomodate you and your luggage. Shuttle will be about 70E flat rate. Cab will be 55-75E, depending on traffic. ((I)) |
Thanks for your quick response, ira. I will just grab a cab then. I really didn't want to arrange for a shuttle as it seemed that it would be somewhat of a problem having to call them when we arrive and then having to find them. A cab seems much more simple. Thanks again.

You're welcome, PP.

There is also a bus to Opéra for 8.30&euro and a train+Métro ticket that will get you to any station for 7.85€.
|
p.s. The train fare for those younger than 11 is 5.55€.

Doing the math, I come out with a total cost of Robespierre's suggestion as 64.60 (possibly less if there are children). Compared to the cost of taxi, you decide if such minimal savings are worth it to manage your luggage to and from the train, transfer to metro, and then to your hotel. It sure wouldn't be for me!!
Meanwhile I see more and more vans as taxis, so the wait for a mini-van instead of a regular taxi seems to be less of an issue all the time. |
7.85€ * 4 = 31.40€ * 1.20 = $37.68
Whether portaging your luggage is "worth it" is a personal decision. I'm just providing information. |
I don't know if I should start a new thread or ask my question here but I'll try here first. We are 9 people coming in to Paris in the a.m. and going to a hotel in the Marais. I looked into (quickly) van shuttle service and it seems like the limit is 8 people in the vans. Would we need 3 cabs so 2 vans might be better? Has anyone out there done this? My husband and I would probably do the bus/train or metro option and our kids would be fine (four strong boys and one strong girl) but my parents might be too tired from the trip (they are in their mid 70's). I think the money may be well spent to start our trip off on the right foot! Brenda

Hybrid solution:
Everyone take the train to town. That's what you'd do if your destination were (for example) Avignon, isn't it? The Young And Strong can then schlep luggage into the Métro and down the street, while the oldsters grab a cab. |
gangof7, you can book a van for 7 and a taxi for your parents :) Even if you all are strong people taking care of the luggage on the metro or buses can be an adventure !
