Taxi from airport

Hi,
we intend to spend a few days in Budapest this coming May (first time in Hungary) and would like to know how much a taxi would charge roughly (in Euros) from the airport to Kempinski Corvinus hotel (Erzsébet Tér 7-8).

By the way , any feedback from Kempinski hotel ?

Many thanks

I'd suggest you re-post w/ Budapest and Kempinski hotel in the title

Something like "Budapest questions. Taxi in from Airport, and Kempinski hotel?"

Beware of SOME taxi's. You set a price with them before getting. Tele Taxi should be fine. Most have a fixed rate to or from the airport. It should be about 20 Euros. Another option is the Airport Mini Bus. You can purchase R/T for probably a little less. They are very reliable, help you with your bags drop you and pick you up right door to door. You might have to share with others, but the others would be heading same direction as you. We use them every time we come and go, since we visit family, and tend to have lots of luggage, fits easily and they carry up the stairs to the apt.

The Kempinski is very nice. We have never stayed there, it is right in the heart of the city. All 3 metro lines connect right near there at Deak Ter. Walking distance to Vaci Utca, the pedestrian street. A real short walk to the Danube, don't miss the night view of the river. WOW!
Take the yellow metro to Szechenyi Furdo, it is one of the best "baths" in BP. Take a nice relaxing walk through the Varos Liget (City Park) adjacent to Szechenyi.

Bus #16 goes up to the castle district, you can catch that just a few blocks from the Kempinski.

For a real authentic HU meal, unfortunately in a touristy restaurant, try the Fa Tal ( Wooden plate) it is on Vaci Utca, but the far end. Make sure you go hungry, the amount of food you get is ridiculous. You are going to have to walk back to the hotel after that meal. Check out Gellert Hegy (Hill) you will see a stone carving of St. Stephen, next to that you will find the entrance to a really unique chapel. It is carved into the Hill, the whole inside is made of stone. Don't forget the Synagogue it is one of the largest in Europe. Either walk, about 5 mins. or take the 47 or 49 yellow tram 1 stop.
In the rear courtyard, they a tree with metal leaves, one leaf for each HU person lost in holocaust.

There is just so much to see, I know that you will enjoy it greatly. Have a wonderful trip.

I don't think you will actually be able to use Euro, just FYI.

As to the hotel, not sure I have ever run across a bad Kempinski!

The following:

on time, both ways, no problems.

Budapest Airport has given an exclusive contract to one operator who operates on fixed rates according to city zone. See http://www.bud.hu/english/transport/taxi.

I think your hotel is in zone 2, which means a rate of 4100 HUF, about 16 euros.

Padraig, do you just walk to the front of the terminal to get a Zona Taxi?

Hope you get this info before you leave. If not, maybe it will help someone else. We just got back from Budapest. We used Zona Taxi - it worked great. After we collected our luggage, we looked around and immediately spotted a window for Zona. The man sent us outside to the Zona booth. We showed the attendant a piece of paper with the name & address of our hotel (Hilton on Castle Hill). He typed it into a computer & gave us a slip of paper stating we were to pay 4200 Forints (Zone 3). We got right into a taxi and were on our way...the charge was exactly 4200. The driver gave us a business card and told us the charge was lower for the ride back to the airport. We had the hotel call them and schedule the pickup. They were on time - the ride back was only 3400 or 3500 Forints.
