Fixed fare in a Rome taxi (be sure it is a licensed Rome taxi) is 40 euros ($50-55) between FCO and central Rome.

I don't remeber the cost - but do remember it being expensive and needing to ask the price first.
Second time around, we heeded the advice of other Fodorites and took the train. VERY convenient and inexpensive!

The official 40-E taxi fare was established last fall. The train is easy and a good deal (about $13 plus maybe $10 for a taxi from Termini to hotel), but taxi from FCO is less hassle, and competitive in price if you are two, even cheaper than the train for three.

In my opinion, forget the taxi. And for about the same price as getting two tickets on the train to Termini then getting a taxi from there to a hotel on Via Veneto -- you can take a car service instead. For 35 euros you will be met with a sign as you exit customs and be taken directly to your hotel. It is certainly the most convenient, and probably no more expensive than the train/taxi combo, certainly cheaper than the taxi only method. You can book on line.
